I everyone! For those of you who have a FitBit...
How do you like it?
Is it worth the money?
Do you have any other fitness gadgets (HRM, BodyMedia)? If so, how does this compare?
How does the synching with MFP work? what info syncs?
Thanks for all your help! I am torn between getting a FitBit or a HRM with some of my tax return money

I've had one over a week now:
1. I like it so far.
2. I'd say, yes, it's worth the money for me at least - it's graphically pleasing and it's almost overwhelming to see I walked 40,000K+ steps in a day last week.
3. I have an iPhone with numerous apps - Runkeeper and whatnot
4. It syncs perfectly with MFP but I un-synced it because I don't use the standard MFP model of "earning" calories. That's my sole criticism with the FitBit. It overestimates calorie burn.
There's a few sharp critics of the FitBit around on this site. I've checked the distance and steps against Runkeeper in a run or walk session and it's within accuracy. Flights of stairs are fairly accurate but running up a hill will give additional "stairs climbed" - bit of an issue, but no biggie on most days.
The sleep tracker is fun.0 -
I have been using my Fitbit for about 4 days now. I really like it and although I thought it was a lot to pay for a pedometer, I am really glad I did. Already I have pushed myself to be more active, to achieve the next milestones. I used to have quite lazy afternoons, but now I am running, walking, dashing up and down my stairs and generally walking about my house like a crazy person, all in the name of getting my next badge achievement and beating my Fitbit friends! I am also trying to increase the amount of my time spent being 'very active' as opposed to just doing a short workout and calling my exercise for the day 'done.' I also like seeing my own set 'weekly goal' bar fill up day by day. It reminds me I am making progress even if the scales don't quite agree...
The sleep logging aspect is fun, and I like the charts and graphs etc. I log my food on MFP which automatically updates over onto the Fitbit site, and my exercise/ steps automatically sync over to MFP, which updates my net calories (on both sites).
I can see me doing this for a long time yet, as I am getting a bit addicted (well that's what my husband says anyway!) I think anything that makes getting into shape fun, motivating, addictive, challenging, social and interesting is worth every penny!0 -
Thanks for this post. I was wondering the same thing. I may order one today. Wow... even tracks your sleeping. Does it track jumping on the bed too.. Ohh boy. :-) Haaah. Awwh It might see that i rarely jump on my bed. Haah.0

I've had one for over a year along with a bodybugg since last August and an hrm for way longer. Truthfully, I didn't start semi consistently losing weight until I started paying attention to the fitbit numbers which was after I got the bodybugg and saw it was giving me 200-300 more calories during exercise than the fitbit and hrm (but since starting to work the bodybugg website, it's calmed down and is giving me closer to the fitbit numbers for a 24 hour period).
I haven't used it for sleep. I pretty much know when I wake up (which is A LOT) during the night and what I'm doing when I wake up.0 -
Do any of you know how the FitBit would work (if at all) while doing the elliptical or the arc (similar to the elliptical... this is the one I more commonly use)?0

I have had mine for a little over a week. It seems to work great. I got it on ebay for $80. It is small and not noticeable. I wear it on my bra, that way I'm not looking at it every 15 minutes, and it doesn't catch on things. I used it on the elliptical yesterday, it seems to work fine. It counted every "step" I'm gona try the treadclimber today. It really is motivating to put leaves on the flower, or see the calories burned. You push yourself to walk more steps than yesterday. Syncing with MFP seems to be working now, there was a glitch on MFP over the weekend. So far I love it! I just wish it would sync via blue tooth to my phone. Maybe someday. With me, it seems to show a fairly accurate calories burned.0

FITBIT vs BODYBUG.......I have had the bodybug for over two years. I have used it off and on. Here is my answer: After two days of wearing both. BB came in at 89 calories under the FB the first day and then 49 calories over the second day. That fluctuation is fine with me since neither of them could be 100% accurate anyway. The steps where off by about 500-700 each day. Not surprised by that. When ever I was on a elliptical, the BB did not really move on steps but the FB was giving me a step count while on the elliptical. The FB is also helping me record sleep patterns, and that is a huge issue for me. When I look at the FB log, I can see the spikes of when I was up or moved alot. The BB is impossible to see those on their chart. All in all, this is a big SHOCK to me. I LOVED by bodybug up until the FITBIT hit me mail box on Wednesday. I did not think that I would be that happy with the fitbit. I got it so I could wear that out when I was not in a place I could be spotted wearing the large BB strap. My BB will be going up for sale on ebay soon. Goodbye BB and hello FB. Plus FB integrates with MFP and bodybug does not.0
