Hi, I am sure there have been some threads on this previously but does anyone look at there calories over a weekly basis, for example 8400 calories a week as opposed to 1200 a day ( example) and if so does it make a difference? occasionally i go over and wondered if eating less the next day to keep within the weekly calories will work... Thanks Karen

I am 99% sure that everything you eat every day matters and that totaling it up a week does not really give you a good idea of where you are. It is always better to eat your calories in as even as possible of proportions every day as opposed to going over board every day. If that is happening, then just try to burn more calories those days you go over! But it will get tiring having to burn off just what you eat if you go over frequently. Good luck!
  • Ya know i have no idea, but my guess would be that it would not work that well, i think it might be kind of like yo yo dieting, if youre anything like me, i can gain 5lbs in a week and then lose it, but that's supposedly not very good for you and i think doing it like that may be similiar to the same thing, but honestly i have no clue!
  • Yes, I do. I don't see why people get so hung up on 'eat this much in a day'. Your body doesn't know what time it is. Who cares if you eat that particular food at 11pm on Monday or at 3am on Tuesday? Seriously. It's not going to show up in your weight. You can space things out over the course of the week. Weight loss is NOT linear. We have all seen that. How many people lose the exact same amount of weight each and every week, without fail? NO ONE. Because, again, weight loss is not linear. So why should eating be so 'linear'???

My goal is to have a 2590 calorie deficit a week (weird number I know)....if I make that great. But it doesn't mean I'm always at a deficit of 370 each individual day.

If I go over, I try to make it up the next day. Sometimes I eat alittle less every day and go over that amount one day of the week. Sometimes I just try to hit my goal every day. It really doesn't seem to matter a whole lot. Plus it messes with my body so it doesn't get use to a routine which I hear helps it keep it's metabolism up.

Yes. Averaging out weekly calories will work.
In fact it's a good strategy

Besides the benefits others have mentioned, budgeting your weekly calories means that you can plan "cheat" days to not be a cheat at all. Many people on these forums, myself included, plan to have one day per week where we grossly exceed our daily calorie limit. This works out fine, since our weekly total in still spot-on.

I just track daily. If I've gone over by more than 500 calories I make extra to stay in the green for a day or two, but that's about the extent of it. Also, you'll have to be careful not to get to the last day of the week and end up having to fast because you have no calories left.
