Zumba Shoes

Options
Hello. I have recently started a Zumba class and was wondering if anyone had any advice on the best shoe to wear.
I currently have been using my running shoes, but they make it really hard to do a lot of the moves without being propelled forward.
I am a sneaker dummy. I have only worn running shoes my whole life. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Some people wear dance sneakers at the Zumba Studio I attend. You can just google dance sneaker to find a place to order them online. I purchased mine several years ago and can not remember which website I used. Sorry. You really just need a flexible sneaker.

I wear these for my Zumba, and actually have converted a few people in my class to these:

They have some grip, but not enough to have you stick to the floor when you need to slide/glide/be floaty haha

Maybe check out a local dance store and see what type of sneakers they have

I have a sketcher pair that are similar and had thought about wearing them to my last class but wasn't sure they'd give me the stability that i think i need. maybe i don't really need stability just something that will let me move(glide) easier than that of a heavy nike...huummmm. guess i'll try my sketchers this week.

    thanks.

I tell my students to get something with little to no grip/tread (running/hiking/training shoes are a BAD idea) - if you're into Nike, check out the musiques. Personally, I prefer the Reebok Zigs - I have 5 pairs that I alternate in and out. You can go to the Reebok outlet and see if they're on sale...check Marshalls...or even go to a sports store like ****'s or Modell's to check them out.

update- i wore my sketcher 'dance' style sneakers with less tread to my class this week & i had a much better time at making my moves. my feet didn't feel as painful on the sides, nor did my knees bother me as much. its been 2 dys since my class and i think my bones actually feel a bit better. I'll be wearing those 'dance' syle sneakers from now on. Thanks everyone!

I've gone through so many pairs of shoes trying to find the perfect Zumba shoe, and I'm currently wearing Reebok ReeDeem Trainer. They are really lightweight with low tread, and I've used them on carpet and gym floors. They only thing is they don't offer a lot of support on the outside of your foot (when doing side to side moves like salsa or lunges). But they do come in cute colors! LOL.

I had the same issue when I first began taking Zumba and I can tell you that you can't wear a regular running shoe for the class or you will end up injuring yourself. They are very well constructed but don't provide much flexibility. I have tried a few different types of shoes recommended by the Zumba fitness website. In order of my preference, here are a few options you have:

    1. Reebok RealFlex is my FAVORITE FAVORITE FAVORITE zumba shoe. It moves with you and is light weight and I HIGHLY recommend them.

    2. Nike Free - great shoe, a bit less padded than the Reebok Real Flex which I don't like, but gives you great flexibility and range of motion.

    3. Jazz shoes that can be purchased online or at a dance supply store.

    Hope this helps
