@evitwinkle makes good points.
I think he may just be acting out of frustration about his health diagnosis. Ask him what he will eat that he is allowed to eat.
93% lean ground beef?
Low fat processed foods like fat free hot dogs or Polish sausage or ham? (I don't know if he is allowed processed food...)
Lean ground turkey? (You can use ground turkey in any recipe that you can use ground beef in...)
Oven fried pork chops? (Message me if you are curious about the recipe...)
Salmon? (My husband doesn't care for most fish that isn't breaded and fried, but he likes salmon...)
Omelets?
Fat free cottage cheese mixed with pasta and olive oil?
Greek yogurt on a taco made with LEAN ground beef or turkey?
Good luck to you both!0 -
I never eat breast, only dark. Chicken and turkey, no skin. YUM!0

Kinda sounds like your hubby needs to suck it up and try to eat heathier options. Try starting off with half a portion of what he likes and half a portion of what he doesn't like...slowly ween him off the crap.0

Cook for yourself and your health. If he wants dark meat, he can cook for himself.
agreed. He is an adult. He needs to make healthy choices for himself.0 -
I am not a huge fan of chicken breast either. I like it, but I get so tired of it.
What I most recently did was take the chicken breast and coat it in egg beaters and heavily sprinkle with Mrs. Dash before placing it on a baking sheet, It keeps it moist. My husband loves it that way.
Or,
I fill a 9 X12 baking dish half way with water and stick the breasts in there seasoned. I cover with foil and bake usually for 30 minutes at 350 degrees or until done.0 -
Buy the whole bird, cut it up and you eat what you want and let him eat what he wants and everyone is joyous and happy:bigsmile:0

We sometimes buy boneless, skinless chicken thighs. They are really good and not too high in calories. I wonder if you did half breast and half thighs if he would be more likely to eat it.0

Sorry if this is blunt, but tell him to suck it up and quit being a baby. He NEEDS to eat better for his health. He is not showing his love for you by refusing to change his lifestyle.0

Let him eat what he wants, he's an adult, it's his choice. There have been a few posts off women who are trying to push their husbands into a different direction today, it sounds controlling. I'm sure he doesn't want to be nagged at, he already knows his health problems and will change what he wants to change.0

You can't really force him to eat things he doesn't enjoy...that's not much of a life. I can't see how dark meat chicken can't have a place in his diet.0

Will he eat seafood? Thin pork chops? Lean beef?0

give him 3 choices
1- eat it
2-make his own damn meal
3- go hungry
:-) problem solved

Um... I don't recommend not cooking for him. That would be pretty rude. My husband eats ground beef and absolutely nothing else. No turkey, no chicken, no fish, no pork, no nothing. Not even steak. Seriously, it's ground beef or nothing. I just try to be creative with ways to make it so we can both eat healthily.
Why are you afraid of dark meat (unless you just don't like it, that is)? There is nothing bad about the dark part of the bird. I've lost weight just fine eating both types of meat. That said, why not just make an occasional whole chicken? Everybody will be happy that way.
I am in the same boat. My fiancee is a ground beef guy. tho he will occasionally eat chicken breast (alfredo or fried) I just buy the 90/10 so that its as lean as possible. And I too try and get creative.
The whole chicken Idea is a great way to keep everyone happy. maybe you can make burgers with half ground beef and half ground chicken. I doubt he will even notice. Also do the same for spaghetti. and other things that require ground beef. Pork chops and fish are also a good alternatives.
Good luck!0 -
Honestly, I'd tell him to stop being a three year old and just suck it up and eat the damn chicken, because I'd rather a grumpy husband who didn't like his dinner than a dead husband.
Lol my thoughts exactly.
Mine starts whining about the limited choices for ingredients on the first two weeks of south beach diet (he won't buy Mexican produce), so I just tell him 'I've lost ... Pounds, how about you?'
problem is, he is making up for the lack of food by consuming whiskey - so he's actually gaining weight and not inclined to follow the diet. Hrrmph. If I tell him to quit drinking, he'll just drink more. His choice, not mine. So I leave him be until he decides to be serious about losing weight.0 -
Mom - I know you aren't a big sauce person, but maybe try different marinades or sauces for him. That can help mask the taste of stuff he doesn't like.
Whole chickens are probably a good idea, then he can have some dark and some white.
I think the biggest thing with him is his portion sizes, dark meat or red meat can be fine in small quantities, as long as you have lots of other good healthy stuff.
I'm sure he's been pretty grumpy lately, I've seen his food diary and I know it's got to be driving him nuts. Hang in there, hugs and good luck....0
