or who use them at the gym. I just bought an Eliptical and used it for the 1st time yesterday. This is the 1st time I have ever been on one and I love it. However, I did only 7 or 8 minutes just so I can used to it. Well, I woke up this morning and my legs and arms hurt in places I have never hurt before. My question is this, should I take a break from it this weekend and start back on it on Monday or should I get back on it today? What do you guys think?

  • Elliptical machines can take a little bit to get use to. I struggled in the beginning using them. Now I love them. Just remember to not force swing your arms. Take your time and don't add a resistance yet. You'll get there. ;)

I started 10 minutes at a time & as I got a handle on that then I gradually upped my time then started adding resistance. Now I usually do 30-40 minutes at 7 resistance. If you think you need a day off - then take it without guilt. If you think you can get on and do 5 minutes then go for that and celebrate when you meet your mini-goal of 5 minutes (for instance) I love my eliptical & hope you love yours too.

Thanks, I love my eliptical. I thought I would start out slow and work my way up. That is what I did with my treadmill. I have put no resistance on it yet and I don't plan to till I get used to it more.

I used to HATE the elliptical at the gym... I struggled to get 3-4 minutes on it... but one day I told myself i was going to "win the battle" with the elliptical. A week and a half later I am now doing 25-30 minutes. Just start out slow and easy... everyday I would add 1 or 2 minutes on and see how I felt. If it left me too sore I would back it down a little bit.

They are hard to get used to, but now i can say I LOVE THEM!!!

Good luck and just take it at a pace that is comfortable for YOU!

If it's just sore muscles, get back on today!

Unless you are exceedingly sore to the point that you cant move then I would say take the weekend off. But, otherwise I would get back on for 5-7 minutes and stretch really good afterwards. I love my elliptical and it took some getting used to at first, but it is so much easier on my knees than a treadmill or running.
  • Thanks everyone! I love it! So far it does seem easier on my knees than my treadmill did. I got back on and did some.
