Meeting new people
Hey Guys,
I know it might seem like a simple thing to meet new people but how do you guys go about it?
EDIT: you can also add in what you guys do for fun as singles etc to keep yourselves busy. I find I'm superman during the week with the energy I expend then on "me time" I just don't do anything and bore myself to death. I need to get out there!
I should explain a little more at least so you understand what I mean. I've had a group of friends I've always hung around with but they all see me the way I used to be before I lost so much weight and they still treat me like that. I don't want to be the inferior one, I feel like I've done a lot more than all of them put together and I don't really want to be put down, I want to be positive and realise that all the things I've done are great things.
I need new friends that will appreciate the new qualities in myself, and potentially I'd like to meet someone in time, not that I'm in any rush or anything. Just generally how do you go about this? I'm a nice guy, a little loud and I've always had the confidence to talk to people so what should I do and where should I be doing it? I'd just find it very strange to walk into a bar and start talking to a bunch of strangers and somehow become friends with them? :S I've also moved a bit so it's a new area for me to get settled into.
Cheers guys!

Most of my new friends I've met through my job. Afraid I have no special tips though.0

Yeah work seems to be a good place but the thing is I work on a floor with people all 10+ years older, they've all got families and stuff so aren't really the going out types. It's a really tough one for a new person in an area I guess!0

Are you a member of a church or perhaps a special group (ie. a school class)?0

Thanks for that meetup site, looks like a good little thing I might just have to expand my search a bit and be willing to travel more since everyone around me seems to be 40+ groups haha. Maybe I'm a bit young for those kinds of things!0

I know exactly what you mean. I pretty much live in a retirement village (Sarasota FL, where old people come to die(no offence but it's true)). I met most of my friends through my job but there are some age diffrences. My closest friend is 40!
I'd say bars, art shows, movies(?), pretty much just deciding to frequent someplace you have seen people around your own age is a good start...0 -
Yeah I was thinking the classes. I used to do British Military fitness and there were a fair few friendly people there. Could do with that, I think they did social events so I'll give that a go as well. Got my sympathy card for it this weekend after getting hit by a car last night! haha0
