On the topic of water consumption...you can have anything that carries no caloric base.
Water, tea, coffee or anything that is ZERO calories.
Also a good BCAA supplement is good if you work out while fasted.
Drink it before and every 2 hours up till first meal.
Oh...and the closer it resembles anti-freeze the better!

For some reason MFP says my long blacks are 2 calories each. Do you think that's the case? I often wonder if I am defeating the purpose if I have 4-5 long blacks in a day (10 calories)0 -

There are plenty of people who train completely fasted, take no BCAA's and have amazing progress. So much to the point that even Martin Berkhan has been surprised.0 -

I doubt it -- 10 calories throughout the day is hardly enough to remove your body from a ketogenic state, even if all 10 were from carbs. I'm sure the effect it has on insulin and everything else that's affected by fasting is negligible. I'd be more worried about the caffeine content and its affect on your heartrate and blood pressure.0 -

I've been following a 16/8 for 3 weeks, down 5 lbs and visible results already. Heavy lifting 3 days a week with my sports on other days, loving it so far - lifts are up already as well.
It suits my lifestyle and I've never been a breakfast eater.0 -
Can anyone give me some info as to weather or not eating right after training is necessary? does it really assist in nutrition absorption?
I have been fasting from 2pm until 7pm. and training at about 630 am for almost a week now. i just dont want to be doing something ineffective. >~<0 -

I don't really agree with this because when you fast you spike your insulin levels and when you finally eat because of the high insulin levels everything you eat gets stored as fat in the body.... not a good idea
I would love to see actual support for this in a double blind scientific study. Yes, your insulin goes up when you eat, that is true for everyone when they eat insulin spike, but due to the fast insulin sensitivity is much higher as well, so saying it "spikes" would be a vast overstatement. A healthily functioning body produces enough insulin to do the job. It is when people are insulin resistant that they produce way too much to get the sugar out of their blood. For that matter, the thought that all that food goes to fat is simply incorrect. Due to the fast, especially if your worked out fasted, your muscle and liver are both majorly depleted in glycogen which means the first place the sugar in your blood stream will go is to your muscles and liver to fill them up with stored glycogen.

did my 1st 12/12 yesterday wasnt as bad as i thought on a 16/8 today and going to try and 24hr on the weekend0

The great thing about fasts is that it gives the liver time to detoxify rather than helping digest foods. I've done a lot of 12/12, 14/10, 16/8 days and felt great from them. I'd also like to try a 1-3 day green smoothie fast, more if it goes well.0

About an hour away from completing my first 24 hour fast and I feel better than I thought I would! I woke up to use the bathroom earlier and had trouble falling back asleep as I was pretty hungry, but other than that it wasn't bad at all. Last night, I spent an hour at the gym on the elliptical and treadmill at a moderate pace at 12 hours fasted and felt surprisingly okay! Getting started was a little tough, but once I got going I had probably ~85% of the energy I usually have. As an added perk, my muscle soreness is virtually non-existant this morning. Not used to that except for recovery days -- I'll take it

sometimes, but I think it's more related to loss of water and the huge meal. Just finished dead lift day followed by a 1200 cal meal, sleep time0 -
Nope. I can get a headache during a 24 hour fast if I am tired because of a bad nights sleep, but if I have not slept well I now simply move my 24 hour fast day. During my 16/8 days no problems at all.0

Fasting actually cured my headaches! I no longer get headaches 5 times a week, and this makes me happy0

Quick question - during your rest days, how much do you eat compared to you workout days ? I know we cut down on carbs, and higher fats - while proteins remains high. But what percentage are we talking about in rest days ?

Ok looks like on rest days many people eat under maintenance, @ 90 seems good0

I do a partial fast at least once a week its not a complete fast, I still intake about 300 calories for the whole 24 hours, which is about 1500 calories below my normal calorie intake and the day I pick for the fast is usually my biggest work out day about 1700 calorie burn day so not sure if that is smart, but it dose not bother me as long as I take enough protein supplements(thus the 300 calories) and I do end up losing about 3-4 1bs that day, but gain it back the following day, after consuming my normal calorie intake, but the benefit is great , I dont seem as tired and muscle replenish rate seems higher(thus no long standing aches and pains)0

Hey Gang,
Has anyone tried or had experiences with IF as a way to promote fat loss?...especially the last 10-15 pounds...I'm reading a lot of research on the internet that supports IF as a legitimate way to lose weight....Any thoughts would be appreciated...Thanks.

I stopped reading before the first page.
My thoughts on it are this:
its uncomfortable for most people the first week or so.. after that people generally fall into two groups.
**they love it and its extremely easy for them. they remain energetic and very happy. IF works great for these people.
**they hate it, it makes them moody and uncomfortable. they may get cold easily. attitude changes.. some people stress thinking about food all day, etc.. IF doesnt work at all for these people.
Just try it and see if you like it. If it works for you, great! its easy to stick to and it does work.. If it doesnt work for you, theres a million other options to try, just move on.0 -
I have completed 5 days of 12/12x2 and 16/8x2 and yesterday doing 20/4 working out during two of those days and I have lost 5lbs. I saw above that after doing the big fast you lose 3lbs. Is there a way to keep it off for the coming days? Today am doing a 12/12 again0
