How long did it take before your weight loss began to show??

Was there a particular amount of weight you had to loose before you could tell/others could tell?

I have lost 12lb so far and I'm getting a little disheartened that I feel no different and can see no difference :( I have been working really hard and would love to have something to show for it other than a number, on the scale and just wondered if anyone could tell me how far I have to go before this happens?

I know its different for everyone, but a rough idea would be fab.

(oh yes, nasty stats to hopefully help - I'm 5ft10", starting weight 228 current weight 216)

  • I'm 5'7 and my SW was 248. No one noticed until about 25 pounds down but then they ALL noticed over one weekend.

One note of caution however, I go to the same bar with my husband every Friday night to socialise with a group of our friends (all couples) and despite my very substantial loss not one of those girls has ever mentioned it. Thats odd when you consider I left my usually straightened hair curly one night and they talked about it all night?!?!?

Sometimes people choose not to tell you how great you are doing but they have definitely noticed.........................

i first lost weight i was 201lb and it didne start really showing and being noticible until i had lost 30-40lbs

** also you will find the people who you see EVERYDAY - work mates etc will take longer to notice it as you see them everyday so it wont be as dramatic to them

when you see someone who youve not see in months they will be the ones who notice first as there last memory of you was being bigger

dont get disheartned, focus on the numbers going down!!!!!

I am 5'4" and i started out at 225 and now am 186.6! I dont think people really even noticed until i was about 25-30lbs lost. I didnt really notice a whole lot either. I felt cleaner (from eating better) and thinner though sometimes even though i didnt see it so much, until i did side by side pictures. Dont feel bad, your time is near fore people to notice. And like others have said, if they see you all the time they may not notice as much as people havent seen you in a month or 2

Im 5'4 and I agree with everyone on here that it takes time to notice the difference I know i'd lost about 36 pounds before people started to notice but think of it this way. You've lost 12lbs the scales are moving in the right direction and pretty soon you and the people around you will notice but dont give up. You can do it. Keep going! xx

I had my first person notice today (and my mother doesn't count since she knows I'm trying to lose weight and I feel like she's obligated to say those kind of things). I haven't seen her in about 2 months and I've lost 20 pounds since then. It made me feel so good to finally have someone notice. The next best thing was that she offered me her old clothes that she no longer fits into because she too is on a weight loss journey. I'm all for some free new clothes that fit and are in good condition.

For me personally to start noticing a difference I'm sure it's going to be at least 50 pounds and a few pants sizes. Haha

I feel your pain. I'm 5 foot and have lost 10 pounds and thought I'd be able to see/feel a difference in myself already but haven't really felt anything yet. I'm aiming to lose about 3 and a half stone in total so thought that by 10 lbs it would be more visible but I'm just going to keep trying and reassess things at 20lbs down.

Good luck and just keep hanging on in there! :)

I'm 5'6" and I started at 230. I am down to about 215 now and people are starting to notice. But that's mostly my coworkers who know that I hit the gym every morning (the gym is at my workplace). So, they are looking for changes. I can see big changes in my body. But, my family doesn't notice or hasn't said anything (except my husband - he can see it too).
Give it about another 5-10lbs and people should start to notice more.

People that I hadn't seen in awhile noticed at around 15-20 lb lost. Those that I saw all the time started to ask if I lost weight around the 40 lb mark. The ones that knew I was eating better only recently mentioned how much better I looked. External comments, however nice they may be to hear aren't what keeps me motivated. It's the drop in numbers on the scale and measuring tape that makes me smile. Heck, I didn't really notice much of a difference until I looked at some photos back when I first started and then I was like, "Wow!"

I have heard it takes 4 weeks for you to notices a change in your body, 8 weeks for people close to you and 12 weeks for people that see you but don't know you well.
It's not always about the changes being visible its about people paying attention.

Don't worry! You will notice first. I hadn't noticed any changes in my body. I could see it in my face but thats it. This week when I started running, my pants that I wear every time started to fall off :) That is when I knew I was losing inches!! I can't find a measuring tape to see how many inches I lost but at least I know its happening. And this was when I hit 14 pounds. Hang in there!!
  • You will see the weight loss in the face 1st, then it works its way down.

How long did it take before your weight loss began to show??

for me it was after I lost a little over 100 lbs. I could never see it in the mirror. I had diabetes type II. I was taking all kinds of meds for it. After losing my 1st 100 lbs. According to my doctor I was no longer diabetic and took me off all meds. At that point it registered in my head and it started to show

Was there a particular amount of weight you had to loose before you could tell/others could tell?

people were telling me they noticed a difference at about 40-50 lbs. less. I didn't. lol

About 30-35 pounds for me before folks really started to notice, I took a big leap forward (NSV, people noticing) when I neared my gal weight and started to buy new clothes.
  • It was some time, months and probably 25 pounds. However when I started lifting weights and doing some circuit classes and boot camp classes my body type began to change. The first 35 to 40 pounds I lost I just looked like the same person, ie. body type only smaller. Now people call me the incredible shrinking woman, but I look healthy and by strength training I've actually made my upper body more toned, my shoulder appear wider, my waist is much smaller. I very much have an hourglass figure I've been told now. Keep up the good work. You will be there before you know it. One day you'll just wake up and people will be like "WOW" look at you! LOL

I lost about 30lb before even I noticed it (I was not logging or even weighing myself), then alot of other people noticed it after that but then people did and i was a bit uneasy with all the attention TBH.

Now when I lose as little as 6lb people notice
  • My SW was 195 and I have lost 19 lbs. One of my co workers commented yesterday that I had lost some weight. Of course she works at a different job site so she doesn't see me everday. It felt good for someone to finally notice! You will get there too!

The only person who needs to notice is .... YOU !

Try to focus on your health, how good you feel and when those clothes start to get loose ... you'll notice how your hardwork is paying off !

One day you will wake up ... and EVERYBODY will notice how far you have come ! Never count on a number to define you ... only count numbers when eating ! have an awesome day ... and btw ... your doing GREAT !

For me (sw 205 - cw 110) at about 20lbs is when comments started (for those that didnt see me every single day - it was closer to 40 for those i saw daily) tough to notice weight with someone you see all the time becomes harder because you won't lose large amounts over night.
Thats odd when you consider I left my usually straightened hair curly one night and they talked about it all night?!?!?

Sometimes people choose not to tell you how great you are doing but they have definitely noticed.........................

I'd also agree with this - even when I saw people who hadn't seen me from a 60lbs lost didn't comment. I think for some, its a reminder of where they are not - as I'd say the average person slowly gains (not slowly loses) weight each year.

Hello! eveyone hates to hear it but the truth is Losing weight takes time. I am sure it has taken you a long time to put on the weight, as it will take time to lose it.
For me it takes a very long time to lose just 1lb. I work out 6 days a week every week and I always stay under my calories, to tell you the truth I am not sure the last time I lost any weight & I have approx. 40lbs to go.
But I can tell you I do not think I have ever been this FIT. I am giving myself 1 year to accomplish my goal. Some people can lose 40lbs in 4 months I am hoping I can lose 3lbs a month. My advice is to take measurements every 2weeks, and on that same day weigh yourself. When I first started my lifestyle change the first 5 months I barely lost any weight but I did lose inches.
You can do this don't give up and remember to stay positive.Tell yourself everyday that you are beautiful and that you will reach your goal. You body will listen to whatever you tell it......
    You can do this.....
    Take care!

It's shocking, but most people didn't notice ( or at least didn't say anything) until I had lost about 35lbs. You have to be strong! You will notice the difference as you clothes get looser and you feel fitter. It's an amazing feeling! I am 5ft 11 too, I started at 229lbs and am now 180lbs. It has taken me 9 months to get this far. I have realised now that this needs to be a long term thing and that it will take a while but I will reach my target in the end! I still have a stone to go but I feel fantastic and haven't been this fit in years! Don't give up! I do think that sometimes people notice but ( for many different reasons) don't tell you that thy have notice you have lost weight.
