How do I control my urges to eat?

And how do I learn to be satisfied with normal serving sizes?

I try so hard and it works for me for a little while. but sooner or later, the thoughts start creeping back in. I just love to eat. I would eat when I am bored and there is nothing else to do... sometimes when not even hungry I would eat just because I felt it was too long since the last time I ate! I try not to do that now, but the thought of eating starts to, well, eat, at my brain. I also seem to never be satisfied with the right portion sizes. I've spent so many years eating more than I should, I am struggling with the transition of eating the amount that I should. I will portion out exactly what I should be eating, but an hour or so later, I do and serve myself half a portion size again because I am hungry and sometimes even later, I'll do the same thing again. Because I've been doing this again, I've noticed my weight loss has slowed down a lot and I am just afraid I might fall off the bandwagon without some advice/tips/support/ whatever. Help me fight this addiction!

Separate food from your emotions. A love for food and eating is really what got us here, isn't it? You have to change how you look at food so that it can no longer be an escape. It takes slow and steady work to do this. You have to think every time you eat. Never eat standing up or with distractions. Slow down. Put your silverware down between bites. Enjoy and savor what you have in your mouth while eating. Put only half a serving on your plate to begin with. This will slow you down too. You can always have more if you are truly hungry.

Every time I go to eat something, I've started asking myself, am I truly hungry? If I am, I can have it. If it turns out it's because I'm sad, bored, excited, etc. I will put it back. Or, more accurately, I will try to put it back. I don't win every time. I've accepted that, but I'm slowly making progress. It's been years of doing this that has gotten me to losing weight again, finally.

Never give up. You can and will do this!

It helps me to think about how much exercise I have to complete to work off whatever snack I'm about to munch on. It really puts it into perspective and makes me re-think my food choices. Do I really want to spend 45 minutes on the exercise bike to work off that bag of M&Ms? Not really.

    Thanks for the encouragement, everyone!

The funny thing is... I am only like this when I am in America. Whenever I am back in the UK, I am NEVER like this. I always end up losing so much weight when I am there and then when I am back here... I gain it all back and more. I don't ever eat when I am bored or when I am not hungry, and I find I eat so much more healthily when I am here. It makes me wonder if its because I am back in my childhood environment and away from my fiancee (who always encouraged me to be healthy and happy) that makes me take up these bad habits.

I also know that what I eat is also affecting things, but I just cant afford the things that I would prefer to eat while I am in America. I know it sounds like an excuse, but it's not. It's more of an observation + theory.
