Has anyone read the book Skinny B*tch? If so, do you think it has helped you eat better? I'm thinking about getting it and want to see if it's worth it.

Bump* I want to know too0

Anyone familiar with this at all?0

Yep. I own it and have read it. It's a decent book, really in your face, which some kind find offensive. It has helped me to better understand the food industry and thus has impacted my food choices, but my whole menu does not revolve around the books suggestions. I just make smarter choices.
I would recommend taking it out of a library instead of buying it.0 -
I have read it and love it! Worth the purchase! Its gross at times but funny too!!0
-
I love it for the most part. My only issue with the Skinny ***** lifestyle is that they don't want you to drink coffee, and I am a serious addict. haha0
-
It started out ok and then seemed to go totally crazy. They basically want you to become a vegan and not eat anything fun ever again. Not for me.0
-
I read it, and I hated it. It's pretty offensive, and they're basically just crazy vegans. To me, their diet seems unrealistic, and they find so many things "wrong" with foods that aren't really bad for you. I thought it would help me out, but it just left me feeling discouraged.0

I've read it and both my husband and I followed that lifestyle for about 6 months a few years ago. I felt good on it but it just wasn't something we could sustain long term for our lifestyle.0
-
I bought it based on recommendation from someone and then promptly returned it. It's crass and insulting. They pretty much call you fatasses throughout the book. (I'm already a vegan anyway but their tactics of trying to get others vegan by being insulting is just pathetic.)
Try reading 21 Day Weight Loss Kickstart instead if you're interested in a good vegan diet book. http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/21-day-weight-loss-kickstart-neal-d-barnard/11001731260 -
It's pretty much a vegan/vegetarian based diet.0

bump.
I opened this thread because it was about skinny b cereal lol0 -

No input on the book but I will definitely second the 21-Day Weight Loss Kickstart. You can find them on FB as well and they have great recipes there as well.0 -
I'll second that it's written by crazy vegans. It's an OK read tho. I like their approach, the 'in your face' stuff works well for me.
I was reading it this morning. I stopped when I got to the anti-meat chapter, and ignored their rant about not drinking coffee. So, if you read it, be willing to read between the lines.0 -

I tried that, but found the vegans a bit too stringy even when well marinated.0 -
I am a vegan (not because of the book), and I own the book, but have not read it. (I got it for free.) I know enough about the food industry for it to disturb me without reading the book. And I eat a lot of fun things! I find it offensive for the above poster to say that without any obvious knowledge of vegan foods. Let me know if you want me to direct you to some delicious vegan recipes.
Anyways...
I have heard the book is eye opening, and definitely has vegan leanings. Read it if you're interested! It will expose you to some disturbing things which people choose turn a blind eye to...0 -

Please do some research. I gained weight because I ate delicious vegan things.0 -

Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World is threatening to make me even more obese. LOL0 -
borrow it from the library before you make the purchase. I agree that it is totally in your face and sometimes offensive. but it tries to force a vegan diet on you. Sorry, I like my steak. Diet part won't work for me but there are some really great points that will help you look at food differently.0

Hahah, yes. I got that book for Christmas and have been trying to avoid it.... but it's calling my name. :P0 -
Sorry, haven't read the books. However, I have some of their workout DVD's...they are okay. Still had a good workout...but it felt very low budget or something.
I wasn't overly impressed. They talk too much.0 -

LOL.
I wasn't that into the book. I bounce back and forth between vegetarian, vegan and omnivoire and have friends with each diet. (Those friends, unlike me, aren't currently in need of weight loss.) I guess I feel like there's a way to be healthy with most eating choices, but I don't need any of them to include insults.0 -
I hated it! I will mail you mine if you want!
It's kinda rude, and completely vegan. I am not against vegan-ism (or any choice people make) but I do not like anything radical. I though it was going to be a totally different thing...0 -
I recommend you read Perfect Weight America. I dont follow the diet plan but I learned a lot about eatting better and feeling better. Totally worth the read!0

I second this!... And I take offense to not eating anything "fun" remark... I eat amazing food everyday that is both tasty and healthy.0 -
I picked it up at a bookstore and browsed through it... I didn't buy it because I don't care for their style or that they wrote the book in a way that lives up to their self-named moniker... at least in my opinion.0
-
I read it and it was too rigid on things. It is interesting and it gives you things to think about but I don't base my diet or exercise plan on things they say.0

Try them in a crockpot with a can of cola. The acid helps to emulsify and tenderize. I tend to add too much salt, though.0 -
You may have my copy of the book also. It started out cute and in your face, but honestly, I couldn't maintain the lifestyle it suggested. They do bring up great points about our perspectives on food though.0

I read the book after my roommate suggested it, and I liked their rude sense of humor. That's why there's the word "B****" on the cover. That book, and watching the documentary "Forks over Knives," helped me make the personal choice to become a pescatarian two months ago, but with a big focus on just eating cleaner, with more whole foods and fresh fruit and vegetables. My decision was largely in response to some serious health issues in my family, though.
I am not perfect to the people who wrote that book or that movie, and I don't care, but after all the outside research I've done, I firmly believe just eating one vegan meal a week will help your body immensely. You don't have to "give up" meat entirely, but a lot of people do benefit from it, and obviously, I'm still eating fish. I do, however, eat mostly vegetarian and try to eat vegan when I can. I think it's pretty obvious that there are problems in the meat industry many of us can't control, but I don't try to push that on others. I just try to do what I think is best for me and what I feel is comfortable for my body, and you should do the same.0 -
My friend has the book and she liked it, I like the whole in your face business I think its funny but I love chicken, steak, salmon, cheese etc to ever be vegan, I tried being a vegetarian for 6 months and I didn't really notice a difference.
To the people taking offense to the not eating anything fun comment I don't think she meant it in the way you're taking it but to me I think eating steak or salmon is fun so maybe that's what she meant0
