  • I am thinking you could do all sorts of things with this. What if you put apples with cinnamon and a little splenda/stevia at the bottom of the mug and then just used the angel food cake mix by itself on the top?

Sounds great, especially if you're feeling snacking at the office. What's better (and easier) than freshly made cake!

    Thanks!

  • I will definitely make this. Thanks for breaking down how to figure out the calories. I also have a problem with negativity from people. If we don't have a little something now and then, we'll go off the deep end of the mug cake right into the whole cake. Thanks. :drinker:

That could work. I don't think the apples would cook much that way though. Maybe either steam, bake or grill them a little first? Unless you want them crunchy still and that's okay too!

I'm going to put a strawberry in the middle next time before I 'cook' it.

OMG-I just made this dessert tonight-outrageously delish!! My daughter who is a chocolate fiend, loved it as well. Instead of 3 tbsp. of the cake mix, I replaced 1 tbsp. with ground flaxseed. Still deiish-thanks so much for this recipe!

How do you figure out how many calories are in 1 TBSP of cake mix?

Take the calories in each serving before cooked and multiply that by number by how many servings it says it has in it. Do the same for both boxes and add them together.

Then look at how many cups there are total (it'll say on the boxes) then divide the number of calories by the number of cups.

Take that number and then divide that by 16, since there are 16 tablespoons in a cup. This will give you how many calories are in a level tablespoon. Since you're using three tablespoons, just multiply that by three.

    :)

    Edit* Here's an example.

Say your cake mixes are 150 and 200 calories per serving, before baked.

One has 14 servings and one has 16.

    150 x 14 = 2,100
    200 x 16 = 3,200

    Total = 5,300

Say together they have 6 cups.

    5,300 / 6 = 883.33... So let's call that 884. (I round up on calories)

    884 / 16 = 55.25 calories per tablespoon

    55.25 x 3 = 165.75 per serving.

2nd line from the bottom. :)

OMG, this is amazing. I just saw this post yesterday and ran out to get the angel food mix to cancel out some of the calories of the double chocolate I had in my cupboard. Did exactly what you said and it's a great reward and going to be my alternative after a party with cake that I refuse (instead of coming home and eating everything in site to overcome that craving). The only thing I was thinking (since I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes), wondeirng if we could juse use the angel food cake and adding a sugar free hot chocolate mix to give that chocolate flavor. Even that, they have mint and carmel flavored hot chocolate..... hmmm... I think I'll be doing more of this and experimenting. Thanks for sharing this!!!
  • I gotta try this one of these days! Awesome!
