I love Zumba. I did not think I would ever like a classroom setting for exercising. But with Zumba I do. Did it last spring with a group of girls and had a blast. I could not make it over the summer and the group no longer meets. I bought the tapes and they are just not as much fun a the classroom setting. I would love to go to another one but there is not one close by at this time that I can make it to. Good luck with your Zumba!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not big into exercise classes as well but Zumba feels more like dancing and a party!! I have the DVDs as well as yes, not as much fun alone!!! I live in Rochester NY and there are several Zumba classes around but most are quite costly per class or you have to be a member of the club in order to take the class. Hopefully we will see more Zumba in our Cities!! Check out Zumba.com if you haven't to find classes as well!! Maybe a new one has been added.
  • hey!! i've just started doing the zumba on the wii at home and love it! :) not braved a class yet!! bon xx
  • Does anyone know how many calories are burned after an hour of Zumba? Trying to add this to my food diary and it won't give me a number.
    Thanks!

They say you can burn up to 1,000 calories an hour. Now I don't know how true that is. I would like to buy something to wear that I can check total calories burned.
I looked up Zumba on this site and use that as my base. I just don't really know how accurate it is.....

There is a calculator you can google and it let you selects the intensity of the workout too. I feel like it estimates high though.

If you want to calculate zumba calories try zumbacalories.com. I compared it to my heart rate monitor and it was pretty close. I love zumba, but I do mine at home on the wii.

i love zumba, have been doing it for over a year when I join rosemary conley diet & fitness class. Also have it on the wii and bought the dvd's recently. I now zumba exercise at home 2/3 times a week and get together with a couple of my sisters for wii exercise twice weekly, sometimes we do the dvd

You can go to zumbacalories.com & it will give you a guesstimate of how much you burn & at what intensity.

it doesn't matter, you can do your own thing if you can't quite get it - it's all about the fun you have trying ;)

I love zumba --- I joined LifeTime Fitness JUST for zumba so I can go to all the different locations. I got 4-6 times a week and love it. I have the DVD's too -- but they are boring as heck and the being in a dark room with 50 other people screaming and the music blaring is MUCH more fun. PLUS - you meet lots of people who keep you accountable. If I miss a few days, I get texts asking me where I am.

Also, get a HRM with a chest strap -- the online calculators are way off (usually WAY too high) --- and don't be disappointed if you dont burn 1000 cals an hours, I've been doing it over a year and my typical hour is 350-500 and I work my butt off. The online sites all over estimate . It's important to be accurate because you should be eating your cals back so you want it to be correct.

i use a HRM when i do Zumba, and its different each time, depending on how much effort i put into it.... i average around 622 calories.... i am 5 4 and am 155 pounds, and its when i am into it and jumping prettygood, i would guess i am about mid way with energy, meaning there are some that jump more and some that do less. I dont know if you can go by someone elses information... but would make a good guess.

I am the same height and weight and burn on average about 200 calories LESS than you an hour.
I have been doing it a very long time ---- so that might have something to do with it --- it could also be age, but this tells you that you sure can't go by a site that just asks for your height and weight and "guess" on intensity. I love jumping and I walk out of there sweating like a fiend. I would say that I am on the high end.

 I have been doing Zumba since July 28th, 2011. It has been a great confidence builder for me & I love the way I feel when I complete the class. I have a wonderful instructor & she keeps us all motivated & inspired. I have made wonderful friends as well & we all just love to get together & shake it! We workout for about an hour & go through at least 17 songs w/ routines. On some nights we will have 2hr. long classes & it is so wonderful I LOVE TO ZUMBA, be careful though it can be addicting!!!!

I've just recently starting Zumba - but I really enjoy it!

When I've gone I burn about 600-650 cal an hour according to my HRM.

If I don't come out of class being completely drenched w/ sweat, I am not working hard enough!
  • LOVE ME SOME ZUMBA!!!
  • I LOVE ZUMBA! I got a ZUMBA group at work too!
  • If you google 'how many calories are burned doing one hour zumba' it will ask you your weight & age and give you an answer. I am fifty-eight &, for my weight, I burn 657 calories an hour doing zumba.
  • I am an admitted Zumba aholic!! I've been doing it at the Y for a couple of years! So fun!! I can feel my abs (my problem area) getting a lot stronger!
