5 days in & it's harder now??

1st of all, I pretty much always have the urge to overeat and I can pretty much eat nonstop; but, usually the 1st couple of days into reclaiming my food intake are the hardest (i.e. pure effing torture) and then I get used to eating in moderation and it's much easier (although still a struggle and by no means pleasant mind you!). Anyway, I am 5 days out of my insane food binge that lasted about 6 months and it has been way harder today than the previous days. So, I am annoyed, frustrated, discouraged and hungry! the 1st
I kept tellin myself that if I got through the 1st 3 days of torture I would be rewarded with it getting slightly easier. I am pissed it getting harder. Ugh!
Anyway, sorry about the fat girl rant but I just love to eat with abandon and I miss it right now.
I just have to keep reminding myself that I love my skinny jeans more than food.

4-6 weeks to create a new habit. It's worth it.0

Yep. Just what Sleepytexan said. ;o) Sometimes you'll 'fall off the wagon' and it'll take a couple days to get to not feeling 'hungry' so much because of the binge. Just keep at it!0

Drink green tea, and chew sugar-free gum is what I do, when I'm trying not to mindlessly eat out of habit.0

Oh, I did it too. I was on a health kick for about... 14 months? I lost my job... & put on 10lbs from November through the end of January (so far, down 3 since then), but I was just SEVEN lbs from my goal weight when I fell off the wagon. Now I've got TWICE that distance to go. SUCKS.
Now I'm working on getting my body back again & getting back on track & yeah... fighting my urge to eat. But it's a one step at a time thing too. Today, my NSV (Non-Scale-Victory) was going grocery shopping & not buying sugar donuts, chips, iced cream, or cake. I bought 60-cal fat free Jello Pudding Cups instead. Now... it's fighting myself to not sit and eat an entire 6-pack of the little buggers in one sitting.
So far? I've eaten 1 60-calorie cup today. And I'm under my calories by about... a HAIR... lol. It's about 9pm here, & I have a few hours left. I hope that studying for mid-terms will keep my cravings under control. I find I eat out of boredom, & having my hands busy helps. Studying... Knitting... Scrapbooking... whichever. If my hands are occupied, I don't eat as much.0 -
I'm almost 2 months in and I still have those feelings pretty regularly. It's differentiating between "hungry" and HUNGRY that helps me...if my stomach growls, I know that I'm truly hungry...and I eat something portion controlled and am done with it and try and occupy my time with something else. If I'm just "hungry"...I eat something a bit fatty...like a spoon of peanut butter or a cheese stick or handfull of nuts, drink a glass of water kind of quickly, and wait 20 minutes. That usually kills my cravings for awhile and doesn't push me off the wagon.
But just because you're eating better doesn't mean you can't treat yourself once a week or once every 2 weeks. Just build it in to your plan, and have one day where you just PLAN to have a higher calorie count. Then, you know it's coming and you can look forward to the treat, and you (if you're like me) won't be as likely to binge because you'll be "behaving" so that you get your weekly treat and don't have to feel guilty about it. xD I think if you just continue to stubbornly push through, your brain will eventually conquer your tummy.0 -
You have to lose the " torture " mentality and find healthy foods that you absolutely love ! Most veggies are very low cal and can be eaten in abundance. There are soooo many choices that are low calorie and will keep you full all day long when consuming meals every three to four hours. Never get to " starving " .... It is a sure fire way to over eating ! Proteins offer a lot of fullness ... Just start googling some healthier choices .... Eventually you will begin to crave the better choices.
Just an idea ... Take a picture of those skinny jeans and make it your screensaver on your phone ! The best reminders are visuals of our goals ! Best of luck my friend .... And remember in the end .... It was sooo worth it !0 -
It's actually really normal to feel the way you feel, albeit unpleasant. Don't give up. Just remind yourself: This is not a negotiation!0

Try eating clean, you can eat up to 6 small meals a day and you won't feel hungry! It's great!0 -
no no and no. Binging is usually the result of calories that are too low for you. You shouldn't be hungry, also simply sugars also make people hungry.
I agree with him. When cutting calories it's important to not cut them too far back. Doing so can cause your body to store fat and eat muscle (catabolism) Try eating foods that are less calorie dense allowing you to eat more of them. Stay away from white processed grains and sugars and that hungry feeling should go away. Another trick I use is to eat more often every day. I eat with an hour of waking up and then about every 3 hours after that.0 -
What SOMETIMES works for me is to tell myself that I can eat whatever I want, but FIRST I have to eat a decent amount of something healthy (apple, carrots, grapefruit etc) and then wait 20 minutes. By that time my dangerous hunger craving has dissipated and I can usually resist. I also do the same thing about exercise: I make a deal with myself that I just have to exercise for 15 minutes....but then by the time I get going, it feels good, I'm into it and I keep going.
I wish I could say it always works, but never the less, it often does!
Best wishes.0 -
