Need a "101" on protien and other shakes

I'm having trouble finding honest info on the shakes... I've been reading the labels but there are 100's of options and I don't know where to start. I am looking to find something that's pretty balanced nutritionally, but with lower calories. I am not looking for a miracle, just an occasional breakfast or snack replacement and a good post workout drink.
Is there a 'shakes for dummies' site?
Thanks!

Go into your local GNC or Vitamin Shoppe--look at the labels. That's the easiest way.
I like Jay Robb and EAS0 -
Jay Robb is a little more expensive, but it's worth it. I go with the egg protein over whey, I think it's better if your goal is to lose weight instead of put on muscle mass.0

stay out of both places unless you want to pay obscene price increase. Best place to buy protein powder is internet. Amazon.com or bodybuilding.com0
