i did 30 ds in dec... i lost no lbs, actually gained 3. by the end of week 2 i lost 1 inch off my waist and 2 off my belly and hips. that was it for the whole 30 days. I am re doing the whole dvd now and i am 14 days into it and i have gained 1 lbs already and no inches at all yet.... can anyone explain to me why i am gaining and not loosing any inches this time?

You are most likely gaining muscle and a lot of losing weight has to do with what you eat also!0

I am having same issue, but the inches lost is awesome. I am on level 2 day 3.0
-
I gained as well. But believe i lost inches. I was told to eat back my excersise calories which i hadnt been doing, so have been trying that the last few days. Nothing yet...will see! I was down to 154 and went up to 156/158 ....sigh...but i feel more tight and belly went down, pants fit looser...etc....i think i gained muscle. Cause i lost 95 lbs without excersising much, to hard core with 30ds and bike riding...bike riding becme easier to since ive been doing that dvd. So i see benifits...just no move in the scale but up....which stinks!0

You won't have gained muscle in that time, it just doesn't work that quickly, but what is happening is that you are working the muscle with resistance, creating little tears in it. The muscle, in trying to repair itself, swells and thus feels bigger and weighs more. This is a good thing, it means you are doing it right. I did 20-odd days of the shred before getting bored and I didn't lost any weight in that time, but then suddenly, after giving up and taking some time off, I lost weight and inches.
Make sure you take a rest day each week to repair those muscles and be patient. :-)0 -
Whenever i decide not to excersise i loose weight....i did this when i first was on my journey and joined a gym, i was at a stand still. I stoped going and down the scale went. I bet if i stopped working out again the scale would go down, but i wouldnt be getting in shape. So im keeping at it!0

I'm not talking about giving up, I'm talking about rest days.0

Oh ya i take at least 1/2rest days! Im still lazy as all heck...lol0 -

thx. this time around i am not sore at all. I went though level 1 with NO problems at all.... could do it all and keep up through all of it no problem and none of it modified. i am going to get myself 5 lbs weights today and give my muscles a work out again... i think the 3lbs arn't cutting it now, it's easy with them. I know last time i did this dvd i gained 3 lbs and yes with in a week it all came off no problem once the whole dvd was done. I did hurt my knee after the 1st day of level 2 ( which happened last time too). i took 1 whole day off to rest it and i figured i would leave out the plank jumps as i think that is what it was that gets me each time. so instead during that cardio time i do butt kicks or jumping jacks. I am 14 days into this now and no changes at alli measured myself today.... It's just frustrating, as i am trying so hard to loose weight/ or inches and i have been stuck since Jan.... i am always netting min 1200 cal, i eat back my exercise calories, and measure all foods, i upped calories too, etc no change. I feel like i'm being defeated and i am just ment to be this size, shape, weigh! why is it so hard for me! I know i don't eat enough veggies or drink enough water but you wouldn't think that would stop me from loosing anything!

^^^This!
Water, glycogen, protein etc fills the muscle for repair.
Its called the pump!
Feel the pump?
Oh yea...you weigh more now!
=D
Perfectly fine!0 -

i sure hope so. i didn't get great results last time, not sure why... so that is why i was trying it all over again.... i guess i will have to toss out the dvd and try something else.?0
-
Perhaps...maybe ur body is pass that fitness stage? Idk stinks tho...0
-
i just don't know... considering i never got good results the 1st time i did it and i was totally out of shape.... i had just started to exercise, 1st time ever..... well i am going to get 5lb weights to day and will continue the rest of 30 ds with that instead of my 3lb ones... today's food is all planned out and logged and healthy
I am going to give it all i got till the 20th ( my goal date) and if nothing by then., then i'm throwing in the towel and giving up.

Question....
How tall are you and how much do you weigh?
How much do you eat daily?0 -
Because you're overestimating your calorie burn and eating back all of your extra earned calories?0

THIS and maybe only doing 30DS and nothing else? 30DS is great but it's a 20 minute workout and only a 20 minute workout. Maybe you burn 200 calories doing it and I think that's a stretch. Try putting in the same 20 minutes doing hard interval work on an elliptical.0 -
Because muscle weighs more than fat & ur def gaining muscle...keep at it girl!0

I noticed on your profile that you only have a few (like less than 10) to lose. I back you up on the upping your calories option. you are so close to your goal that having that big of a deficit really isnt necessary. I bet if you change your goals to .5 pounds per week that the weight will come off.
Oh yeah, and add some cardio, just to change things up a bit.0 -
I am currently doing 30 day shred, day 6 of level 2. I am very consistant with my calories (I have them set to my bmr) and do not eat my exercise calories back. I also try to incorporate some walking/jogging 1 to 2 times per week. I am losing inches and weight, inches are most important in my opinion. It is nice to see the scale go down but as someone said earlier you will get complimented on your figure not your weight
Keep up the great work and good for you for giving it another go.

Try getting the bigger weights that might help. I also agree with changing it up. Maybe try another of JM's DVD's
You can do Ripped in 30 or 6 week 6 pack.
I am not seeing any changes doing Ripped, but I do get better results with the DVD's than on the elliptical.0 -
thanks everyone. ok for some of the info asked. I am 5.2 ft even! my whole goal was to loose 15 lbs to get in my healthy bmi and weight for my height, i was at max for both. I am not wanting to be under 125 at all! even if i can get to 127-128 i will be very happy. my whole goal is to get down to my pre pregnancy weight ( my son is 5 now, )....
i Started trying to get healthier Oct 22nd and set a 5 month goal to loose min 10 lbs by hopefully closer to the 15. I didn't think that was too much to ask for? 3 lbs a month? who didn't think that could happen, right... I started doing treadmill and elliptical 5 days a week for 30-45 min. built up the time and pace as i got stronger. after 1 month i hadn't lost 1 lb and i also discovered MFP. then i realized that even though i was exercising and eating healthier i was still eating too much, as i loved fruit and i was eating tons of calories from fruit. who knew a banana was over 100 cals.... so i got onto logging EVERYTHING, i measure out my food and try to eliminate those Bad foods. I pretty much cut out pop and chips, hardly have them now. i stopped buying breaded foods like chicken strips, etc i increased my water and i know i still need to drink more and i started drinking tea. those are the only 2 things i pretty much drink now. So it's been hard and challenging but i feel like i have made huge progress in my eating habits! i have even incorporated fish weekly into my diet. So from Nov 19th when i found mfp till new years i lost 5 lbs. not bad, it was a steady .5 loss a week. i'll take it and i was happy. I threw in 30 ds to help kick start my loss hoping for a 1 lb loss a week instead of .5 never got that but lost 1 inch off my waist and 2 inches off my belly and hips.not bad, thought i'd loose more but i'll take it. so in 2 months i lost 5 lbs, not bad..... i was happy...even though it wasn't more. ( oh and i always ate back my exercise calories to stay at 1200 min)
Jan came and i have had some hard times so i opted to try to do it diet alone, i stalled for the entire month! So come early feb i realized i have to get back into a routine of some sort, so i started to do my treadmill and elliptical again 4 days a week, min 30 min and then i threw back in 30ds. everyone also told me to up my calories as i hadn't moved in a month, so i changed my MFP setting from a 1 lb loss to a .5 loss 9 which is all i was loosing anyway) that gave me 1310 calories a day. after the 1st 2 weeks i lost 1 lb, so i thought i yes, it's working! well once i started 30ds, i gained 1 lb and i am back to my stuck weight i was at for the last month and a bit... no inches coming off either from 30 ds, i am 14 days into it, well # 15 is coming tonight.... my goal day is approaching fast ( 20th) and i don't know why it has been so hard to loos 10-15 lbs. I am stuck at a 8lb loss and can't get over it?
my bmr is 1252, so i am at my bmr with the 1310 calories... that is why i eat my exercise calories back to hit my bmr. I burn anywhere from 160-220 with 30ds and if i do cardio i will burn 160-200 more in a 30-40 min period. I use a HRM too, so i know my calories are more accurate.
I just never wanted to be one of those people that go HARD to loose the weight and then slack off after, i wanted ot keep it at apace that i will be able to keep for the rest of my life on a daily basis. i only have 1 hr a day to get exercise in too, so doing 1/2 cardio and 1/2 circuit training i thought i was getting the best of both worlds... but i guess i'm not doing something correct as the weight isn't coming off????0 -

anyone else have a suggestion for me, it's a feel sorry for myself day today. i know i shouldn't of but i stepped on the scale this am to see if it was back to normal and it was another .5 more
* sigh*... so i have completely stalled and back to my Jan 1st weight! my goal date was march 20th to be at least 130, which is happening.... why am i going back up instead of down? is it just water weight from 30ds? or should i put my calories back to 1200 or should i make sure i do 30 min cardio every single day? ahhhh

I'm interested in more responses, too, as I am currently doing 30DS and have my MFP custom set to be a bit more than my BMR. But what I suggest is taking your "weigh this by THIS DATE" off the table. I started off that way, too, thinking it would motivate me, but all it did was frustrate and disappoint me. The important thing is that everything you are doing is good for your body and the results you'll get from that won't necessarily show on the scale, particularly as low as your weight is now. I'm 5'3", my pre-pregnancy weight 11 years ago was 125, but I'm not going to expect my body to return there. Could it? Maybe. Does it need to? No. I'm hoping for 140. But I tell you, I'll be a way healthier woman at 140 than I ever was at 125.0 -

yes you did make a good point. i thought 5 months to loose 10 lbs was plenty...( we had 2 trips booked and i thought 5 lbs for each one was the goal)... but i agree, i am 5.2ft and i was 128-130 pre pregnancy and i do say that i am healthier now then i was then, more fit! i am not huffing and puffing nearly as much,lol... i just thought 130 would be a good weight at 5ft 2inches. i'm not expecting to be less then 125 like i was a few years before i got pregnant as i'm not that young anymore either, but if i got there i would be stoked! I never want to be less then 125 ever! I will be very happy with 128-130 but i can't seem to get past a 7-8 lb loss... I will take off the march 20th goal date and just look forward to being healthier and i guess when my body is ready to loose it, it will..... i just never know what to do to help it along.....0 -

It is such a mind game. As much as I preach to my friends not to live by the scale, it does mess with your mind to work out and eat well and then see it go up a pound when it's not even that TOM. I'm up a pound since starting 30DS, but that apparently is normal from posts I read here. I'll just keep it up, maybe work in some extra cardio beforehand and see where it takes me.0
