That's just one of the many excuses of some overweight people (I was also guilty of this before) & even if your bones are "big" it will only be slightly bigger & there won't be much difference on the weight. I read somewhere that our bones only weigh 2kgs. & if you're larger framed, its just a slight 5-6 lbs. heavier.

First I thought I was big boned but when I was measured at the gym, they told me I'm only a medium framed based on many factors. One thing they did, they instructed me to wrap my wrist with my thumb & middle finger & my fingers just touched. On the finger test, if your thumb overlaps your middle finger then you are small boned, if it touch then you are medium boned & when fingers do not touch then you're large framed or "big boned". However being like that isn't an excuse for being overweight.

I don't care what someone wants to tell me, but when my wrist measurements are almost 8" [and there is NO FAT on my wrist, as I am not overweight and have "bony" wrists] and my elbow width is what it is...I have a large frame. Notice I'm not saying "big boned" and using it just as an excuse to be overweight. I'm also 6', however my friend who is 6' has a very small frame, her wrist only measures 6" and I forgot what her elbow width was but it was smaller than mine.

you can use this site to calculate your frame size... it's helpful, since I've always thought I had a large frame but according to this I have a medium frame, so now I may change up my weight goals.

    good luck!

I always thought I was big boned because that's what they call big girls. Now that I'm losing weight, my wrists are tiny and dainty. Turns out I was just fat.

Big boned, sadly, is just another way of saying big. :/

My doc told me I was big boned. When he saw that I am so small for my weight he measured my wrist and elbow and then told me I am big boned and need to stop focusing on lowering my weight and start focusing on lowing my body fat and raising my lean body mass %.
I like it cause I get to eat more since my body burns more at rest :)
I weigh 175 and wear a size 8 US jean yay!!

    Large framed <> Big Boned

I am generally massive everywhere. 6'2", size 15 feet, 11 inch hands, 38 inch long sleeves. Do I think I could ever be below 200 pounds? It'd be really, really tough. It is all about finding a weight that you're happy and healthy with and to not obsess about "being X pounds will make me happy".

Yup, I have large frame aka big bone by measure my wrist.
Not only that I have big arms and I also do heavy weight lifting.
I love to wear petite clothes (5'1) but I have problem find tops that would fit my arms.
Most of my friends - around my weight are 110 lbs or less since they have small frames.
I doubt I will ever go down that low.. I would look so sick and I don't want to go down that low any way.

i was once passed for an operation as the consultant said i should be assessed as a man. His justification was that i had a large mandible (jaw bone). I think he was trying to be diplomatic and avoid upsetting me by saying i was a LARGE woman (fat). On reflection i do have broader shoulders thenmy husband and he was a rugby player (think american football)

I am small boned, no excuses here. I can wrap my thumb and forefinger around my wrist and touch the fingertips together......
