Eating way over my protein

I'm having problems staying within my protein goals. Almost everyday I'm way over. Is this a bad thing? I'm under my calories, fat and carbs.

I would love to know what you're eating b/c I'm just the opposite! I'm trying to figure out how to put more protein in my daily consumption!0

eat lots and lots of egg whites :flowerforyou:0

IMO protein is set pretty low. Especially if you're excising.0

I use the number they give me for protein as a minimum actually, I find it rather low.0

I was just wondering the same thing. I'm alway WAY over on my protein but under on my carbs & fats. I'm wondering if this is a bad thing?
I notice that i have more energy when I eat lots of protein. I have only been doing MFP for a few weeks and haven't lost much weight but i can tell i've lost inches. My food diary is open if anyone wants to look at it and give suggestions.0 -
I made the decision to eat more protein. Seems to work for me.0

A lot of people on MFP would say that if you are using the original settings, then the recommended protein is too low anyways. I changed my percent ratio for Carbs:Fat:Protein to 30:35:35. That puts my protein at around 90g a day.
I'm not a nutritionist, but this ratio works better for me. I'm less hungry and feel stronger. As long as you aren't eating obscene amounts of protein, I would say you are okay.0 -
I'm trying to up my protein, it's aways under. I've increased it because it was originally set way too low0

The more protein the better. Throw in some weight training and you might even build some muscle.0

I'd like to see too, if you can open your diary. I am usually high on carbs and low on protein, and I'm actually going for the opposite of that -___-0

I eat alot of chicken breast, cheese and lean beef. I like to stay low on my carbs. I just didn't know if eating too much would delay weight loss. I'm down 13lbs since I started fitness pal and down 20 total since January. I run 2.5 miles 6 days a week. I figure I need the protein, right? Thanks everyone!!0

I'm usually over on my protein but I don't think it has hurt me.0

I'm the same, struggling to reduce carbs and up fat/protein. I've resorted to eating cheese by itself if I have any deficit after dinner in a bid to bring them up.0 -
Just be mindful that excessive protein can be hard on your liver-perhaps you should consult with a wellness/fitness coach to help determine where you should be at with your protein when factoring in your exercise.0
-
If I'm over on protein I know I've eaten well that day! haha I just see it as a positive thing.0

Unless you have a liver problem it's hard to go 'over' in protein.
If you are going by MFP's settings and you are always over that's good, from everything I've seen.
Body builders regularly eat 1g/1lb of body weight.
I find that a little high myself but aim for 0.8 - 1g/lb of my goal weight (so 100-125g) spread out throughout the day.0 -
I agree with Scott, it is set really low if you're exercising. I go over everyday and i'm losing weight like i should be.Most days I try not to use all my carbs and sugar, but go over my protein and fat. ( I just try not to eat much fat at night.)0

I eat Chobani Greek Yogurt which is alot of protein. One container is about 14 grams of protein and about 140 calories.0

I've opened my diary if anybody is interested in seeing.0

My protein is over 90% of the time and I got to goal eating that way, my fats and carbs are usually lower than set.... I wouldnt worry about it at all.

my tae bo instructor who is also a nutritionist said that you should eat atleat 100grams a day0
-
I just had 51g of protein for breakfast today.
I ALWAYS go over. Always. I usually get a little over 90-120g of protein every day. It's not an issue.0 -

Greek Yogurt, chicken, salmon, fresh tuna, protein shake, fresh turkey breasts, low fat cottage cheese.....all high in protein :0)- the Total 0% greek yogurt is amazing, tastes great, no fat and can be used as a dessert with fresh fruit or as a salad dressing... much better than eating cheese which is high in fat.... xx0 -

Pretty awesome, actually, but out of curiosity, what does your sodium look like? Cheese is really high in sodium.0 -
I eat lots of protein without eating tons of meat and eggs. I eat Greek yogurt, which has anywhere from 9-15g, depending on the amount I eat. I eat Frigo light string cheese, which has 8g. Quinoa is a good source of protein, too. I normally have chicken breasts, tilapia, shrimp, tuna...things like that for lunch and dinner. One of my biggest sources of protein comes at breakfast when I have my AdvoCare meal replacement shake. It has 24g.
I'm thinking about transitioning from Weight Watchers to MFP. I started in MFP yesterday in addition to WW, which I've done for over a year. It has been an adjustment trying to meet goals for carbs, protein, fat....especially calories!0 -
I eat fresh motz which tends to be lower in sodium.0

I did weight watchers and I think it can be mis-leading. They give you unlimited fruit and veggies and I would pile up on those items, not realizing how many calories I was eating in addition to my point allowance. I hardly lost any weight. MFP really has opened up my eyes and helped me learn new eating habits.0 -

I've had great success on WW, but I get burned out at times and like to try something different. Not to mention WW costs $$! I've found that I can't view the fruits & veggies as completely free....I have to limit myself to just a couple of fruits and 3 or 4 veggies per day. I also make sure I measure them instead of eating them with abandon LOL! It just seems that every time I get to my goal, I get burned out with the point-counting and end up gaining some back.0 -
Too much protein cant really hurt you. You should be eating half your weight minus four- in total amount of grams. The amount set on here is pretty low to be honest. But id rather eat too much protein, than to try to meet my caloric goal with carbs!0
