Encourage me to eat, please.

I have netted less than 300 calories, and it is just after 4pm. I do not have an ED, but I have been down this road before and I k.ow it isn't good for me. I have lived on probably 6-800 calories per day for months at a time, but since I never get below 'normal' weight, all I get is positive reinforcement in the form of compliments.
I feel hungry but it doesn't make me want to eat. Actually, I rather like it, and that scares me. I have been doing really well averaging 1400 cal per day, but I'll admit it's a struggle for me without giving in and eating total junk.

Your body needs fuel in order to run properly. Please, it doesn't even cost $4/gallon, get some healthy food in there for it!0

The fact that you know what you are doing isn't right is a good start. It also doesn't help you to lose weight. I might get bashed here, but quite frankly, I think that eating a couple hundred calories of junk to get you over 1200 calories is better for you than eating nothing.0

Sorry, I went to check out your diary before I answered seriously. It looks good the last few days. Keep up the good work. A friend of mine here gave a good analogy. Think of your body like a damn. When there is plenty of rain the damn releases as much water as you put in it. You can even convince it to let out a little extra. In times of drought the spill ways shut down for preservation. If you adequately feed your body it will corporate best. I've never eaten less than 1750 calories a day and was even losing last summer at 2000.0

i know it must be hard for some people to eat enough calories, just like its hard for some of us to not eat too many calories. We all struggle, but please dont deny your body the proper amount of nutrients and fuel it needs to keep functioning. It sounds like you know how many calories you need to eat, stay focused. you can do it. eat healthy and make sure to drink your water.0

if your dog was malnourished, you wouldn't deny it food, so why would you do it to yourself???0

This.
I get where you're coming from though. Now that I'm trying to "maintain", I have to deal with some disordered eating habits I picked up somewhere along the way-- I def didn't have these issues when I was big.
For me, it really helped to log everything. I get really competitive when it comes to food. Instead of saying "Look how little I can subsist on! Look how much more than me my lunch date ate! Look, I only got a kid scoop & she got two full sized ones!" I try to make it "Look at all these veggies I ate! Yay, I hit my protein goal! On this nutrition report, look at this big even line!" etc.
I make it a different kind of game, I guess.0 -
Thank you, each of you, for your input :flowerforyou: I needed to hear it today!
I have never thought of myself as having disordered eating, but thinking about my past, it is obvious I do. I am working on cleaning up my bad habits, but in the process, I begin feeling guilty about eating the foods that I classify as 'bad' - wheat products, sugar, etc, even just on rare occasions. Something to work on!0 -

well maybe I am reading your diary wrong........but I see almost 600 calories?? is that right? And that is with just breakfast and lunch. So if you eat a 3-400 calorie dinner you should be okay. Have a handful of nuts for a snack........or some yummy tortilla rollup with choc. chips, banana and a little whipped cream for dessert? Good luck!0 -
I agree working on a certain goal besides just calories will help you reach your daily needs such as maintaining a daily protein goal. Your body and mind will thank you! You can do it!0

I burned almost 300 with my walk, so I have to account for that. I should be ok today - I'm eating apples and walnuts right now and the menfolk are making stew for dinner
My main concern is the realization that being hungry doesn't make me want to eat anymore. I've been here.before.0 -

I have that same problem quite a bit. I actually got chubby from not eating enough. I would say just try to eat enough to hit at least 1200 calories. If you can do at least that much, then at least you won't starve your body. Try adding a protein shake or something like it that is healthy, but doesn't completely fill you up. You can do it0 -

Thanks! It's good to not feel alone, though I'm sorry you know how it is. I'm definitely going to look into some protein powder to supplement with. I might give 1200 a day a try for a while instead of trying to push for more and see what happens.0 -

I'm actually quite similar to this too. I have a huge tendency to under-eat. I've been working on it for the past several years here through tracking. I tend to rely on protein shakes to make up for my deficits since I have a hard enough time eating the 1400 - 1600 I normally try eat without adding in exercise cals.0 -

I'm going to try the shakes! I seem to have no middle ground - I either eat way too much or not enough.0 -
You'll kill your metabolism if you go too low on calories.0

Yo, man. Eat.

Oh, I know. I can tell you exactly how bad it is for me to undereat. Making myself follow through is the hard part. But isn't it always!0 -
This is why I never congratulate my friends on coming in under their calorie goal! That goal is there for a reason and if you don't reach it you're not sticking to your programme! I made my diary completion private for this reason, I don't want people telling me how awesome it is that I didn't eat enough.0

I agree!!!!! And liking the feeling of being hungry is actually a disorder in itself... not exactly your common eating disorder but I believe it has to do with anxiety or control... Maybe check into that....0 -

not to intrude, but wouldn't keeping it private keep them from helping you stay up to your goals? might be productive to keep it available if you want them to help you keep accountable.0 -
I have to say that in the summer I have a really hard time eating all of my calories because I eat much lighter foods in warm weather, so I keep "treats" around to tempt me and to pump up my calories. Yogurt and fruit popsicles or homemade pudding pops, things like that. Good luck, you can do it, this is just a setback0
-
Because you haven't gotten below normal weight doesn't mean you are ED free. Take a look at your eating habits; if you really don't think you have an ED now, it's likely you'll develop one. Start eating more calories a day in foods that you like. If you refuse to eat things that aren't healthy, try eating whole wheat pasta and things like that.0

Yes it does, and that's the point for me because I neither need nor want help in that department. I'm happy for people to know what I eat but I really want to avoid unsolicited advice and any WTG! comments, and I know from experience that most of my MFP friends think staying under (and I'm talking 100s of calories under) goal is a good thing, and I don't.
Just to clarify - the diary is open but what I mean is that I have removed it from the news feed.0 -

ESPECIALLY if you're not eating back all of your workout calories. Without an HRM, it isn't accurate, so I generally give myself about 100 to leave room for overcalculation error.0 -

ok, great, that's sensible. How do you remove it from the feed??0 -
Go to Settings (between Help and Logout at the top of the screen) and then Automatic News Feed update settings and change your preferences.0

You can keep your diary open but make it so that it does not post as a status update when you complete it. Because my doc said not to eat my exercise calories yet, mine always says under, so I just made it stop posting to my status. If people want to see it they can, but it won't post daily.0
