Homesick

I've lived in Nevada for over 13 years...before that I had lived my whole life in PA, about an hour outside of Philly. You'd think after being out here for so long I wouldn't get homesick.

Anyone else out there a transplant like myself? Do you still get homesick?

I'm not in the same situation, but I moved four hours away for college and have spent the majority of my time up at school these past few years. I think no matter where you move, you will always miss the place you are from. You know everything about it, just because you lived there for so long. You know all about the town and surrounding areas. Up here, I know most of what's up but every once in a while I feel lost. I could live here for more years and still not understand everything.

I grew up in Seattle, lived abroad in college, moved to California for a few years, and now live in Utah. I still call Seattle home and miss it all the time! I've been gone from there for eight years or so? As long as "home" was a good experience for you, I don't think you ever really stop missing it.

I grew up in MA, moved to WVA, moved again in WVA was stationed in TX and reassigned and retired in OK. Home is where I hang my hat. Sure I miss some things but I was never really attached to where I was with the exception of the first and second moves to and within WVA...I was only 14 and 16 at the time and that's kind rough age to deal with a move. As an adult, I've been fine wherever I'm at.

I grew up in Southern California and moved to San Francisco when I was 18. I stayed there for 9 years. San Francisco was home. I have since moved to Madison with my fiance. He grew up here and his family is here. It's been about 3 years now and I still miss California. I went back this weekend and I was feeling homesick before I even left. It is hard to move somewhere new and build a new life. I also feel like it is harder to make friends at 29 than it was at 19. There are definitely days when I wish I was still in California.

Born in Ohio (Painesville), raised in PA (Titusville)....have lived in Adelanto, CA, Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts, Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska, Jacksonville, AR, Misawa Air Base, Japan, and Ocean Springs, MS....oh and 8 months in Al-Udeid Air Base, Qatar.

It never gets easy because our family is back in OH and PA....and my daughter is in NM and grandkids are in AZ....so my homesickness follows the people more than a specific location.
