    how i met your mother, am actually watching it right now :smile: i did love friends at the time but have seen far too many reruns now!

    HIMYM is pretty cool too. But Friends is my favorite show EVER!

    friends is super duper nostalgic & takes me back to a younger, simpler time :laugh: but HIMYM is awesome & definitely relevant for the present!

    hard to compare. different shows for different times. Friends was funny when it was on (except for the Rachel/Ross yo-yo dating). Mother is funny because it plays to an updated sense of humor (except for Ted's Fracked up obsession with the "right" girl - it was Robin!!)

    Both are great:wink: . HIMYM is definitely hilarous! Don't know how well received it would have been if it would have been out at the same time that Friends was on though.

    Friends is my all-time favorite show. I, too, own all 10 seasons on dvd and I always catch the re-runs.

    However, I find the question itself kind of unfair. Comparing a popular current show with one that ended 8 years ago? What gives? It seems more fair to compare two shows that are on now. An excellent show to compare HIMYM to would be Happy Endings, which I find to be completely hilarious. It is far funnier and more engaging than HIMYM, a much better current version of Friends. Brilliant writing!

    I do watch HIMYM regularly, but it's not high on my list of favorites.

    I love both, only really discovered HIMYM at season 5, but thanks to the power of TiVo, I've noticed that they've just started from the beginning on teen tv station E4...so I get to indulge.

    Friends for me is like comfort food. It reminds me of being young (I was around 18 when it launched in the UK) I remember I worked in a bar on Friday nights, so my friend would tape it for me and bring it over on Saturday to watch before we got ready to go out :-)

    Who knows, but there is talk that when it's over there will be a How I Met Your Father version from the wife's point of view covering the same years.

    HIMYM all the way. Although I do sometimes think some of the ideas originally came from Friends.

    Friends is ridiculously good. HIMYM is just... blah. BLAH. Maybe if Neil Patrick Harris got replaced, things could turn around.

    I love How I Met Your Mother but absolutely loathed Friends and still do, I just don't get how it got so big. Of course because it was so big I did try to watch it when it was first on but I just found it dull but I find HIMYM can be hilarious. Plus I don't mind looking at Jason Segal.
