Who would have thought that C5K would be used for dogs!!!
That's awesome! She'll thank you for it one day!
I do the same thing with my daughter's dog. It's a Bouvier and he definitely needs a bit more exercise. He's very strong but his cardio his awful! The first time I went running with him, he was going so fast, he could hardly keep up with me after 1.5 mile! But he got it after that... start slow to run longer. He's getting better and better every time. I didn't weight him, but I can see that he did lost weight!
During the start stop cycles of c25k I say "run" when i run and "walk" when I walk. If she starts getting ahead of me I say "walK" and give the leash a little tug and she slows down. She's to the point now when I say walk, I need no tug and when I say run, she starts to jog.... I like it.0 -
Aww! Congrats to you all!! That is sooo sweet.0

awwwwwww! this was the most heart warming post ever!!!!!!!!!!! That's so great that you are helping your pup do the whole program and get in shape! What a great person!0
-
Love it! Good for you getting her on the program!0

That is awesome! I am trying to get my cat to lose a pound or two. He is very overweight and I feel bad for my bad habits being forced on him.
I think it is fantastic you are working with your dog!0 -
I wanna see her before and after pics!0

Running with cat.........only way to make a successful outcome is:
A: Have them chase something they like- i.e. laser or bunny...
or
B. Leash them put on your sweat pants and use a spray bottle!! lol
Either way........kinda hilarious! :glasses:0 -
This post made me smile!0

That is just terrific, our youngest Sheltie has to eat Fit and Light food and we really watch his weight - good for you looking after your pup too0

This made me smile. Their weight is important too! I had a severely overweight Pug before it passed last summer. We adopted him from a pregnant lady that fed him human food and kept him crated. We tried everything with no success. All the extra weight on such little legs can't be comfortable.
I'm sure your pup is feeling better already.0 -
Congratulations to your puppy! Give her a big snuggle for me!0
-
I hope you gave her a treat. :P~~~~

Yay Pup!! That is sooo great!! By sticking with the program and including your dog, you are not only changing and lengthening YOUR life, but the pooch's as well!!!0
-
 Good for the pooch! My gal was a whopping 171 lbs at last weigh-in, though that's normal for her. She also runs with me. Unless we run uphill... then it's a whole new sport: Mastiff-schlepping. She very reasonably sees no reason to hurry - mind you, she's got no problem losing or gaining 10 lbs in the course of a weekend. Wish I had that kind of metabolism! Not fair... :grumble:0

Love it! Congrats to Poochie! I have 2 labs and they are both getting into better shape with our weekend hiking and evening walk/runs. :happy:0

thats great!! Pets are just children with fur !!!!0

This is so cute.
Congrats for your doggy! I'm sure she's feeling better, too. My chow is a little on the portly side so maybe I'll get him into jogging too.0 -
lol. Awwww:)))0

That's really awesome! I read this at first thinking it was a joke! Way to take care of your dog, that little bit of weight will go a long way to assuring her a healthy long life.
Good for both of you!0 -
Congrats to you and your dog on getting healthy. My basset has 10lbs to lose (seriously) and the most exercise he'll do is walking from his food bowl to his dog bed.0
-
lol That made me smile and laugh! How cute! That is awesome that everyone is on board!0
-
Good Job.
I'm thinking about doing the Couch to 5k. My dog is a RUNNER! Husky lab mix.0 -

Yay! It's great to incorporate your pets in your fitness activities!
For all of you who said you have fat cats, me too! (Just look at my picture!) One weighs 18.5 pounds, but he's a Maine Coon (left) or Siberian (not sure) so he has a bigger body anyway, the other is an orange tabby (right), and he weighs 22.5 pounds, just fat.
The vet says they could both stand to lose a little weight, though, so I've been trying to find things that they like to play with regularly. We use a laser pointer and feathers on a stick, and some boxes, to make it more interesting.
I just bought them a new toy that they LOVE though, called Da Bird. It's feathers on a stick, but they're stiff, so when you swing it around, the feathers move and make a flapping noise. I think they think a bird got in the house! Even my tubby tabby can't help running around after this thing, and he loses interest in anything that involves running fast! And, for us humans, it's hard to spin it around properly sitting down, so you have to get up and actually play with your cats. It's way too fun!0 -
That's wonderful! Share some pics! : )0
