Days When you REALLY Screwed Up...

Ok so... being a stress eater and having 4 exams in a row has taken its toll on me and I FINALLY cracked and ate a few things I very much regret. I'm about 450 calories over my goal (though I do plan to make at least a 200 calorie dent in that by the end of the night).
So I have two questions before I do something drastic over my guilt of doing this:
1) Is it OK to do this sometimes? I only became serious about losing about 5 days ago, and this is my first screw up. I've been diligently watching everything I eat and exercising and ensuring to either be right on or a little bit under my calories for the day. Will a day like this (hopefully not a common thing) affect my weight's downward trend?

2) When I click to say that I am finished logging for the day, the number that comes up still claims that in 5 weeks I'll be less than I am now. Does this mean that I'm still at a losing deficit, just not as efficient of a deficit as it could be?

Ugh. I'm so upset with myself for this. I was doing so well, and I had weighed at losing 3 pounds this morning too!! D:

    1) yes! its totally fine as long as you dont dwell on it and let it get your too down. (take a look at my diary yesterday - not a bit of guilt!). i really focus more on my weekly totals than dailies, so its not a big deal to me if i go over one or two days. in fact i usually have one day a week where i go over on purpose, as long as it keeps me at my weekly goal.

    2) yes, pretty much.

slipping off once in awhile is actually ok, even good. your body will not feel deprived of "bad foods", slipping off one day a week (no more) will actually keep you from craving those bad foods. Dont dwell though it will only make you feel worse. If you are including a workout in your weightloss try pushing yourself harder on days that you "cheat" or the day after. It will not only burn a few of those extra calories from the bad food but will also relieve stress and make you feel much better! Good Luck! Dont let stress drag you down, take a break and go for a 20 minute plus walk :)!

I've been having a bad couple weeks. I usually do plan a high calorie day where I don't even log, but I just have to watch that it doesn't turn into the whole weekend, etc. I think the weekly totals are more important because some days I burn a lot and don't eat it, and other days I only get a little exercise but am more hungry that day. It's just one day and unless your weigh in is tomorrow, in the long run, it is probably not a big deal. I usually try to time a high calorie day on my actual weigh in day so you have the rest of the week to balance out. Sodium, etc. can show up as a gain when it's not really a fat gain, just water.

Don't sweat it. Even if you messed up a lot or several days in a row, once you know that's not how you want to live, you will get up and start new. Unless you are eating 3500 calories over your maintenance calories, you won't be gaining real weight. So yes, you probably still have a deficit depending on how you set your goals.

It won't really affect you, 450 over will still give you a calorie deficit at the end of the week. You'd have to go over 3500 [or however many calories are in a pound] to gain. You might have water weight, if the stuff was high in sodium, however.

I was 1,800 over the other day, so don't feel too bad :)

It's a marathon, not a sprint to the finish, so pick yourself up, brush yourself off, and keep going. Just don't let one off day make you lose confidence. You wouldn't quit school just because you had one bad paper?

Hang in there... we've all had rough days...
