Going gluten free?

So for a little while I've been feeling super bloated, gassy and icky. I've had IBS for as long as I can remember, and lately I've especially been feeling bloated.

Has anyone seen a positive difference by going gluten free? I'm thinking bread might be doing this. However I do eat heaps of veggies, and I'm always over my fibre intake for the day, so maybe it's that...

I've been gluten free going on 6 months and I couldn't be happier with my choice. My stomach issues have gotten so much better, my immune system is stronger and my skin is much healthier. It's not an easy choice, but I would say give it a go and give your system a chance to adjust (at least a few months) before deciding to stick with it or not. From what I've read, it can take up to a year for our bodies to heal, but I noticed a change within the first month. A word of caution though-if you are used to eating a lot of bread/gluten-y products you may have some odd side effects if you stop cold turkey. I had super strange cravings and what I can only describe as "withdrawal nightmares." It didn't last long, but just wanted you to be aware, google "gluten withdrawal" for more info. Good luck, I hope you feel better!

Oddly enough, I am just starting the gluten free journey as well. I don't have any noticeable stomach or digestive issues, but I DO have other issues that can be caused by intolerance to gluten... such as excess cortisol, low thyroid and excessive weight gain in my abdomen area only. So, I figure it couldn't hurt to try. Honestly, I don't eat much in the way of breads, pastas, anyway, so I am anticipating an easy transition. The hard part for me will be eating out...because when we do go out to eat is usually when I splurge on the pastas, etc...

Best of luck on your journey, and let us know how it goes!
