not eating after 5pm

Ok so firstly, Hi! i'm new!!!! hello people,
now that i've done that, I heard years ago that if you don't eat after 5pm you loose loads of weight because the food has a chance to broken down properly before you go to bed (or something similar like that) can anyone give me more in?formation?? My aunt swears by it.

sounds great, not true.
It works because not eating after 5pm typically means a reduction in calories, that is all.0 -
All you are going to do is go to bed hungry! A calorie is a calorie no matter when you eat it.0

What time you eat doesn't matter much. What matter is calories in vs. calories out AND your overall macro nutrient ratio. 150 calories of protein before bed is obviously better than 150 calories of sugar.0

I'm not an expert but I think if you stop eating that early you might slow down your metabolism. Consult with your doctor if anything before you do this. You should be eating at least 5-6 times a day of smaller portions including snacks. Just don't eat after 8pm, anything before that might put your body into starvation mode. Hope this helps!

this is just as incorrect. You do not need to eat 5-6 times a day. And you can eat after 8pm. You can finish your last meal in bed if you'd like.

If I'm hungry after dinner I eat! Just exercise enough each day to have leftover calories for that evening snack, just in case!0

stopping to eat at five is not good. a nutritionist told me that you should not eat about 2 hours before bed time and another one said eat something small and healthy to keep your metabolism going threw the night the example she gave was 10 nuts that are not salted or roasted or anything else besides if shelled0

I never eat til 7 and have been losing weight. Having dinner that late doesn't allow snacking time and I'm too busy until about 6 to cook earlier0

Sorry, now that I'm reading, my original post wasn't clear. It's the amount of calories consumed during late night snacking (which often involves overeating) that causes the weight gain. We're on the same page, I just wasn't clear.0 -

I've been told, and really believe, that it does matter what time you eat the food - yes, calories are calories but if one is eating say, 300 calories at 5pm then it could be exercised off but if one eats 300 calories at 8pm at night and goes to bed, watches TV, or just sits around the calories will just aid towards weight gain. That, of course, is my opinion.0
