hehehe I just wanted to grab everyone attention lol

o.k. so this is a question to all the annoying know it all lifters out there.

I get into this debate all the time with my hubby, why is it when you work out your breast they appear way bigger and rounder, I mean are they really only fat tissue? any body know why this happens?

Replies

  • I've never had my boobs appear rounder or bigger from working out...

    Surgery, yes. Working out? No.

My guess is it would be your pectoral muscles developing under your breast tissue, that pushes things out and up

If I understand it correctly, working out the chest area strengthens the muscles around the breasts, making them appear firmer and more prominent...basically helping the muscles to "hold up" the breast tissue.

it just seems so odd cause if the fat isn't under the muscles then wouldn't skin be the only thing keeping it up, and that doesn't seem that great of support

There are kinds of chest muscles that develop... it gives it sort of a "lift"
  • Im not a female so this question is a little diffcult to answer (the BOOBS comment attracted me haha). But yes.. the breast tissue is almost exclusively fatty tissue HOWEVER there are pectoral muscles underneath the breasts that will develop with training the chest. Crucially there is the Pectoralis Minor muscle - a small length of muscle that runs from approximately the bottom of the breast (attached at ribs 3-5) that links to the bottom of shoulder. Training the chest will tighten this muscle which will either have two results. If you slouch the tightness in the muscle group will pull your shoulders forward. If you walk with good posture the chest (and breasts) will be pulled just a little upward.

Obviously the pushing out is also increased by the extra muscle size but the lifting is due mostly to the Pectoralis Minor.

    Hope this helps.

    Mike.

You are working your chest muscles underneath.

Guys who do lots of chest exercises, have quite prominent, well defined pecs. Imagine that with boobs over the top and it would make sense that they stand out a little more :)

My boobs always look FANTASTIC the day after I bench press.

... of course this is my pectoral muscles screaming out in swollen pain.... but small sacrifices... right?
