I used to drink the equivalent of a 2 liter of diet sunkist per day and had a personal trainer tell me to cut out soda all together. Needless to say, that didn't work but I've at least tried to cut down so now I've tried to make it a habit of not having more than 3 cans per day.0

I love diet coke, but it was the dentist telling me that she could see the enamel on my teeth being weakened from drinking too much that made me cut down drastically!0
-
I've actually given them up entirely. There's so much junk in them and stuff, plus, now that I'm not drinking diet coke or pop in general, I feel so much more better. So long as you cut down as much as you feel comfortable with, then that's great! You'll feel a difference.0

My Personal Trainer has told me to cut out diet coke! Didnt ask the details why but he said it really affects weight lost. I get told off everytime he sees it in my diary!0

Up until mid-January this year I drank 2 litres of 7up free every day. I switched to water now and I feel so much better. My tummy is less bloated and my skin is better.
I can't answer your question on how much is okay to drink a day, sorry.
Just wanted to say if I could give it up, anyone can. I was so addicted.0 -
I've been drinking about 300ml per day for a year with no ill effects so far. I reckon that's a reasonable amount to drink.0

I am an avid diet coke drinker and for years it was 70% of all I drank. I am lucky in the way that it does not affect my weight loss progress nor does it trigger cravings. But as one person mentioned it DOES wear down the enamel on your teeth (its very acidic) and the fact that water is good for the skin made me make some changes. I still drink diet coke but when I am working (work nights in the ER) I only drink water/crystal light. I drink 2-3 cans still a day though (it wasnt unheard of for me to drink 6-8 a day! )0

To be honest drink as little as physically possible! Even though it doesn't have calories per se, it has a whole load of artifical sweeteners and other chemicals which make it harder to lose weight! My trainer and I spent a good few week trying to wean me of it when I hit a plateau! I did work although there were other changes I made too.
Overall, limit yourself to the minimum you can!0 -
Drink as much as you want if you don't have a concern with the artificial sweeteners. Sure it's not the best thing in the world for you to drink but it has not been proven to affect weight loss in anyway. It can hurt the enamel on your teeth so drink it with a straw!0

Im on day 9 of no pop what so ever, never felt better, and really the cravings are gone. I used to drink 1 -20oz bottle a day of caffeine free diet coke. I drink a lot more water now and yes my kin is looking better then ever. Good luck on your choice!0

The less, the better0

i dont think it is particularly detrimental to weight loss in any way because on my food lists from my dietician it was one of the free foods (foods/drinks i could have as much as i like of in a day) obviously dont over do it but enjoy it0

Hi all
I used to drink about a litre of diet coke a day and had done for about 25 years! but a recent study indicated a high level of stroke and heart attacks for people who drank a lot of diet drinks, here's a link
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/46431225/ns/health-diet_and_nutrition/t/daily-diet-soda-tied-heart-attack-stroke/#.T1DFlIc2-So
don't mean to frighten anyone but I've really cut down since!0 -
Can you tell me of any other free foods. I know dill pickles are 0 calories but that all I know of.
:flowerforyou:0 -
I usually get a drink at lunch, it's either diet oasis or diet coke..!
Today I decided to opt for water !0 -
I allow myself three a day, anything else soda like has to be Clear America flavor waters. They have carbonation but no calories, sodium or anything else, but they're way better then flavored seltzer water. I thought they were the same and they are not.0
-
Get rid of soda all together, and you'll feel better, and it will help with weight loss.0
-
One 12 oz. can a week as a treat.
@LKHyundia Dill pickles aren't exactly zero and most are filled with sodium.0 -
So - those of you who don't drink soda, what do you drink? I get tired of water all the time. I need something with flavor...0
-
I drink diet dr. thunder. some days I have none qand others I might have 2 cups. I drink tea mostly. I did knock it out completely for a few days and just wanted soda even more.0
-
You could flavor your water. I'm a Mio addict. You can add as little or as much flavor as you like. Kool-Aid, Crystal Light, and several tea companies (e.g. Arizona, Lipton) also have low-calorie, sugar free flavor options.0
-
I just drink water, sometimes I'll add lemon. I do drink milk and tea (with creamer sometimes, but usually green tea plain) Personally I've never gotten hooked on soda, I knew it was just empty calories and was bad for my teeth and I already have dental issues, so I don't need anything to make it worse.0
-
So my issue is this... I would LOVE to omit soda all together. I know it's not good for me and I would like to be healthier. I do not like to add powders to may water - I don't like it - I actually enjoy drinking water but I get tired of it. I'm not crazy about tea unless it has sweetener in it, which brings me back to the chemicals that I have been trying to omit. I tried giving up soda a couple years ago. Everyone kept saying that the headaches and tired feeling would go away after 3 (or so) weeks. Well - they didn't. I went 3 months and still no improvement. I was miserable. Clearly something with that kind of hold over my system can't be good for me, but I don't want to live like that.
Does anyone have any good methods of cutting out soda?0 -
i love my diet cokes! I try to drink only one can or two cans at tops a day. Im not a big water fan either.... but I do like crystal light so I will drink that. Drinking more water is one of my goals!0

I don't think anyone has mentioned yet that the artificial sweeteners in the diet drinks are extremely costly for the liver to break down. The more time that your liver spends processing these complex compounds that the body cannot use, the LESS time/space/resources that your liver has to spend burning sugars, fats, toxins.
I don't know how much time/energy the liver has to waste breaking down artificial sweeteners, but as a rule it is generally best not to make your liver work harder than necessary.
and yes, acid on your teeth is bad. it is not the bacteria, per se, that cause decay, but the acid they secrete as they digest the sugars on your teeth. in the case of diet drinks you are not pouring sugar all over your teeth for the bacteria to eat and secrete acid - you are skipping the middle man by pouring acid all over your teeth, which softens the enamel, which wears away.0 -

The more water you drink, the more you want.
Trust me, I went from drinking no water at all, to 2.5 litres of water a day.
I read somewhere on here that your ideal water intake is worked out by halving your weight in lbs, and it's that amount in oz.
We don't really use oz here (Ireland) so I converted it to ml and it works out at 2.25 litres, so I'm just above it.0 -
If you can shop at a walmart, they have clear america. It's a flavored carbonated water. It's on par with soda for cost, but has no calories or sodium (what I was really looking for). It's all fruit flavored, but they break up the same old stick if you're drinking water all the time.0
-
Im really addicted to diet coke and here we dont have flavored waters. Also dont like tea very much.
But thank you for all the replies0 -
It's got to be the caffeine that you're addicted to right? It can't be the taste of the diet soda, those things are awful. You can get a cheap bottle of 200mg caffeine pills for about $5. Get a pill cutter, take half a pill every four hours upon waking and the last one no later than 6 hours before bed time. I've cut all soda and coffee out of my diet this way.0
-
OK, I do not like soda or pop, whatever you call it, diet or otherwise. However i do like diet iced tea, and have about one a day, and also one or two DD iced coffees a day. Thats my only REAL sugar. Otherwise, i drink water. I dont really like it, but i get thirsty for it. the more you drink the more you want. good clue about volume, i like the formula - I think i need about 80 oz. Gosh that sounds like too much!0
