totally different! I know in today's society and what is acceptable and what isn't as far as weight is concerned, that nothing really can be done about body image now that it had been set into stone for SO long..........BUT I feel like we need "normal-bodied" models. I think that it should be a requirement in the fashion world to have models who range from the slightly skinny to the plus sized people out there.......

I don't know about anyone else, but singling out a group and having "plus sized" models....like its a special thing, is kind of insulting. Its like saying "hey you are special because you are fat and we want to show the world we want to care what fat people look like........they have a right to be stylish too".

But then again........its my own personal opinion........

I have seen a brilliant comment on another post as to why they don't use plus sized women as the main stream models of clothing. The super skinny girls are used basically as a hangar. They're not meant to fill the clothes out but to show off the clothing.

LOL! I've never heard that but that's hilarious. Totally going to use that one.

The ad agencies are going to do whatever it is that sells.

"Hotness Comes In All Shapes and Sizes", Levi's says.

I think it would be more beneficial to the clothing company to show how clothing looks on all sizes...like use 2 models of different sizes wearing the same outfit, that way we would have a better idea what the clothes really look like!

i think the designers only make a one size sample/collection so they dont spend time/money on more fabric and it's quicker and easier to make clothes that will fit the same shape...yes, the x/small models are hangers for the clothes!

Yes, it might save them money to be in the x-small to only medium bracket, but come on..........I find it a little insulting........like they are saying "you really need to be "this" and not "that".

And honestly, have you ever seen something cute in a department store that you could SO totally rock, but you weren't the correct size?

More importantly, do you see a difference in styles where stores are concerned. Yes, every brand has their own unique flair........not saying they don't.........but some of Lane Bryant's stuff I really can't say I like because it doesn't look good. And they are all up on the distraction techniques too. Not any other store I have seen uses that much sequins.......if not used right, they look gaudy (sp?). And the flowing shirts, ect........all for a purpose because it is a "plus sized store" obviously. But shouldn't we have a right to shop anywhere we please and be able to be successful at finding stuff that we really do like that maybe other stores have in smaller versions?

I understand, where Lane Bryant is concerned, that no one wants to see a heavy set woman in a bikini top or something that is less flattering.........its just that we all come in different shapes and sizes is all..........so I feel as though when thinking of models and who is going to wear what, they should focus on a more natural woman than a woman who wears a size 0.

I always hear this debate about weight, but never about height. I find it rather insulting they pick out women who were simply born tall. It's not controllable, except in extreme situations such as leg extension surgery.

As far as weight is concerned, at least people can choose to lose or gain. I don't think we should really feel sorry for 18+ year old models (aka adults), however, as it is their choice to work in the fashion industry as models. There are plenty of other jobs out there -- they aren't being forced to be models. Plenty of jobs have risks to them (construction work and factory jobs come to mind, although I never hear about people "weeping" for them) -- as does life. Noting that we are discussing runway models (not catalog or glamor models), these women are often paid $$$ to walk down a runway.

As far as not having a variety of models on the runway, I really think there are better things to be outraged about (I'm not pointing at anyone on this thread btw. I've simply noticed an inordinate amount of negative attention paid to this topic the past few years).
