Ok... so the "PC" answer is: if you are comfortable in it, then you are good... however my honest answer is this:
Take a good friend, an HONEST friend, with you shopping for one. Honestly many body types can pull off a bikini if it's the right one for their body. Get an "outside" opinion from that friend once you find one worth showing them. I have seen others in a bikini that was sooooo not meant for them, but then again, could see someone a bit bigger who totally rocked it - it's all on the make and how it contours you. Sometimes when you have that 2nd set of eyes there to confirm it, knowing they are honest eyes, it also helps your confidence before your public debut :) This is what I advised to another friend, a RL friend, and she thanked me, so hoping it helps

GREAT response! I'm not sure how many of my friends would be truly honest though lol. And I've learned I can never get a real response from my boyfriend

Personally if your comfortable in a bikini wear it. It really doesn't matter what other people think. If they don't like the way you look in it they can look away. I personally am not comfortable in one. I have a weird body shape and I just look funny in a bikini.

remember where you were and how far you have come. People are often quick to critisize folks for wearing what they consider in appropriate attire, either for their age or body. But who knows...maybe those people have lost lots of weight and though bigger, are estatic at their progress. I know that my weight is too high...but there are people out there that wish they weighed what I weigh....enjoy your success and pooh on people who don't know your personl story..... I bet you would look great in a bikini...

So, can you be too old? Here is a link to a photo from today, 53... I LOVE wearing 2 pcs. LOL. Is this too nasty for public? I feel OK with it.

You are completely right. I went to the Dominican Republic about a year ago and there were some... um, very, very inappropriate bikinis there. There was one lady who was probably a US 16 or 18 and she was wearing a string bikini. She looked like a roast tied up in butcher's twine. It was horrible.

LMAO! Let's not forget the less than buff middle aged men in speedos ............

Oh, I could have done without that reminder. Especially now that I'm seeing in my mind's eye the one guy who kinda looked like a gorilla with a strip of caution tape strung over his buttcheeks.

7 Foot Tall is too tall for a bikini.

    HAHA Perfect
  • I say, as long as it fits your right and you're not busting out of it, and you feel comfortable then wear one! I just started losing weight, I started at 186. Last summer, I wore a bikini. I was in no way toned, but I know that as long as I was comfortable with it, then who cares what anybody else thinks? If they don't like it, they don't have to look. My bikini was an XL.....I'm going to Vegas in June and I WILL be wearing a bikini :) But this time, I should be around 150 if I stick with this.

A one piece isn't the only alternative to a skimpy bikini. Educate yourself, please.

I don't need to, I'm a guy. All I know is the person I'm with won't wears a bikini when she wants to tan. I was simply trying to point out that not everyone wears a bikini exclusively because of the way it makes you look to others. I fail to see how wearing a bikini because it gives the tan lines you want doesn't achieve that goal.

I live near the beach and am there 3-4 days a week all summer. 90% of the women wearing bikinis shouldn't be :) I guess they feel comfortable though? I am 99% sure I will never wear one. I'd just like to get to the point where I can roll up my tankini when I lay out to get a little color on my stomach. I'm far from that now though so I will continue to keep myself covered.

I don't think she was chastising you.
  • if you're comfortable with it go for it!!! you have to be happy with yourself and have confidence in how you look. that's why I don't wear bikinis and I live in Hawaii!!! :noway: I just never wanted people to see my belly!

I disagree. If you're 7 feet tall, you'd be pretty much limited to bikinis. There's no way the torso in a one-piece would be long enough... you'd end up all wedgied and camel-toed.

I had a similar problem the other day. I was on the beach in my micro bikini when the lifeguard came over and asked me what I was doing.

I replied that I was working on my tan and might do a couple of cartwheels for fun then she cut me off and pointed to my bikini and said 'you can't wear that!'

    I was astounded. Shocked. Angry.

Then she explained that it was a nudist beach, which, to be fair, I should have realised as I was surrounded by nakedness.

So I threw it off and joined the locals in a semi-competitive sand castle building competition.

There's a message in here somewhere.

I like bikinis because they give some support
the most beautiful bikini wearer i've ever seen was a woman, probably about 8 months pregnant.
It's all about how you carry yourself. Hell, my bellydance teacher weighs well more than I do, but when she moves, i could fall in love with her...
