I am a diabetic, and when I first found out I was diabetic about a year ago, my medical insurance paid for several appointments with a nutrition specialist. For me, with diabetes, she said I should only be eating 45 carbs per meal (at 3 meals per day) Max because carbs break down into sugar. Hope that helps...☺0

so you eat 135g of carb
do you feel thats enough0 -

YIKES......I can't believe dieticians and nutritionists still say 45 grams per meal. That is more than I consume most days.
Every Doctor and registered dietician I have seen since 2003 has told me no more than 80 grams of carbs per day. I have been successful in getting off all medications and now staying off of them. I am on my way to reversing Diabetes also.0 -
80g of carb per day that is low in my book lol0

Best to stick with carbs that are lower on the glycemic index (<55) and eat no more than 100g per day of low GI carb. While watching overall calories is important, keeping your total carb intake in the lower level will help most lose weight and get healthier.
There is a search feature here. Enter "55" in the less than or Equals box and hit "Find Records". These are the foods that are less likely to make your insulin levels surge.

Another good site to review: http://www.southbeach-diet-plan.com/glycemicfoodchart.htm0 -
so 200 g of carb a day is way too much even if it is low GI carbs
time to review diet0 -
focus first on protein then fat. after protein and fat macros are reached then fill in the rest of your calories with carbs or more protein or more fat. dont fear fat. its too many calories that make you fat, not fat.0

The last time I logged my food (which I'm not doing anymore since I'm in maintenance) I consumed 250g of carbs. Some were "good carbs" and some were even *gasp* "bad carbs".
I didn't gain any weight. I am still happily maintaining. Unless you have some kind of health issues, carbs are NOT the enemy and won't make you gain weight!0 -
It seems like you are getting your carbohydrates from the right places. I'd even add a piece of fruit in there if I were you. I find that as long as I avoid refined carbs such as white rice, white bread, candy, and products with added sugar I maintain/lose weight (depending on my goals any given month).0

Wow than I must be the exception to the rule because I have type 2 diabetes (diagnosed in 2009) and my dietician from the beginning set me up on 60 grams of carbs at my 3 main meals and 20 grams at my 3 snacks. (So I was consuming 240 grams a day) since then I have upped my carb intake to 80 grams at my 3 main meals and 30 grams at my 3 snacks. My A1c went from 10.0 to now 5.4 (only thing I am still on is Metformin) and I have lost a bunch of weight... I use to think carbs was the enemy but eating the right carbs is the key and I for one don't have a problem with them...0

I follow The Primal Blueprint recommedations. For weight loss I keep total carbs to between 75 and 100 grams per day of lower glycemic index items. For maintenance, 100 to 150. You are not really way high and what you are eating seems to be fine. You'll help your efforts if you get them lower in all likelyhood.0

Very much agree with this. Except I do the opposite. Fat, then protein and carbs fill in the rest.0 -
80g of carb per day that is low in my book lol
Its not low if you suffer from T2 Diabetes, Insulin resistance, Thyroid issues, PCOS or any other metabolic or endocrine issue. To heal the indocrine system, the first thing any good doctor will tell you to do is to control your carb intake, unless you don't mind staying on medications.0 -
Thanks for the info
i will try to stay under 100g of carbs per day0 -

Fruits and vegetables are the best carbs!! I stay away from grain, lentil and legume carbs.0 -
then that goes back to the high insulin spikes caused by fruits etc.0

Not nessesarily. There are lower glycemic fruits like most berries and apples for example. Also, almost all fibrous veggies are low glycemic. I get 99% of my carbs from these sources and generally stay under 100 grams per day.0
