Fiber Cancelling Carbs??

Since starting my journey I've been a carb watcher, however I eat a ton of beans, I love them, they keep me full. I recently read that fiber cancels out carbs for example if my beans are 50g carbs, but have 15g of fiber, I really only count 35g of carbs. Does anyone know if this is true and why does that work?

I don't concern myself with carbs, low carb, no carb, whatever, but i think this is called net carbs or something like that.
Fiber is a good carb that you need/want and should not cut out of your diet or severely limit, so it does not count towards your carb allowance for the day on some diets...that is my guess.

It's because fiber is harder for body to digest so it uses up more calories to digest..hence the lower net calories compared to refined food with little or no fiber.
