Anyone knees click? I'm 21 & sometimes my knees just keep making a clicking noise when im squatting, sitting down, walking etc.
Is this normal?

Mine do once in a while. I have had it checked and they have said nothing is wrong with them. But it is disturbing when it happens.0

I don't know if its normal, but my knees AND ankles click when I'm walking. It's annoying.0

YES, just when my legs are extended. I started taking Omega 3,6 and 9 and it stopped .... maybe just a coincidence but it may work. It is so annoying though!0

Mine used to make a little noise when squatting. I found that as my legs got stronger (ie-more muscled around the joint), the noise lessened, and any time I am lifting with my legs and they are under a heavy strain, it goes away. It seems that in times of heavy strain, with the muscles tightly contracted around the joint, it is better protected. I expect this is the beginnings of what I have read about deep squatting actually being very good for improving the function of your leg joints.0

My knees are so incredibly clicky, I find it a huge problem. They've been like this since I was in my late teens (I turn 30 in 2 weeks) still have no idea why.
They make a crunching noice, like the cartilage is being crunched, every single time I bend them. It's become a real hindrance as sometimeas I feel like my legs will buckle underneath me whilst I go down stairs.
Walking up/down stairs, doing squats, lunges, lying on my back and straightening them out, anything that involves me bending the joint.
I've seen specialists about it as it can be painful BUT...they say there's nothing they can do.
All I can do to help lessen the pressure and occasional pain is to reinforce the muscle around the knees so that they take the strain off the joints when bending. I have been doing this by swimming, cycling, squatting etc....unfortunately the clicking will never go away, it's becoming louder and louder, but the pain seems to have lessened so that's the only bonus.
Did you have an accident in the past to cause the knee to bend in a strange way?0 -
I"m not your age anymore but i have always had clicky knees. Sometime they would bother me sometime just the noise bothered me. If they start to hurt i would ask the doc.0

My knees and my hips click. So do my elbows; my shoulders are hyper-flexible, and one can disjoint (according to my physical therapist). I'm 25. You're in good company0

thats exacly how my knees are they sound like a crinkled peice of paper, I saw a specialist who said its more likley due to running/cardio exercises as the knees took a pounding due to the intensity0 -
All my joints make a click pretty much on a daily basis - they are quite hypermobile though and don't cause me any trouble.
My knees, however, make a horrible crunching noise when I'm (for instance) walking upstairs, squatting or movement like that - makes my husband feel sick lol!! I went to the doctors about it and they said it was crepitus, apparently, and there's not a lot I can do about it (yeah, helpful). It doesn't hurt but my knees do kinda feel a bit 'weak' sometimes.0 -
yes my knees click or crunch, or ankles click and when I rotate my head I can hear the crunching in my neck, has been doing that since I was teenager0

Do you find when it gets colder, they have a sharp pain when you put more weight on one knee than the other (walking down the stairs of an outdoor train station in the cold weather, for instance)? That's when I worry, always try to make sure I have a railing to hold on to...making me feel older than my (29) years :ohwell:0 -

Same here. All my joints crack and pop but I'm double jointed so I can dislocate a couple things including my hips.0 -
I'm 26 and yup my knees click all the time when i walk and sometimes by ankles crack REALLY loudly. But i have no problems running, maybe i walk funny?0

I think the cold does make it worse...thinking about it, if I've been up and about quite a lot during the day they kinda ache a bit but there's definitely no sharp pains. I'm only 28 too and it does make me feel a little older :grumble:0 -
Nearly ever joint in my body clicks, knees, ankles, fingers, wrists, elbows, nearly whole of spine, big toes, ears (yes inside my ear), necks.
Doctor gave me all clear, he said some people have it some down't. Not a sign of athritis.0 -
my knees and ankles pop every time I bend them. And have since the 5th grade.
My husband calls me snap, crackle, pop
I've never asked the doctor and weirdly enough I've never googled it either.0 -
Mine always click the first few times I bend them - when warming up for squats they crack away but eventually stop0

My knees - while squatting - used to sound as if someone was tearing a peace of paper right down the middle- it doesn't happen anymore. However upon waking my ankles click with each step. Also my shoulder pops/snaps....(crackles?)...when I am doing certain leg raises/abdominal twists.0

mine do this all the time! it never hurts but sounds horrific!
i have flat kneecaps from an accident as a teenager though so the bones arent held in place very well.
i was recommended to build the muscle around the bones so dislocations wont be a common

Mine do, and it was innocent at first, but I'm 25 now and sometimes when they click, it does hurt. After doing more yoga, I found that they click less, so it may be helped by strength training. Bad knees do run in my family at every weight.0

Mine do - apprently it is something to do with me being double jointed (hyper mobility) and my knees sometime feel as though they are trying to bend backwards (ie the wrong way) but it is annoying rather than painful and worse when I'm tired....0

Like everyone else who has posted, I have clicky knees too. Sometimes it sounds like something snaps but it doesn't hurt. My family has a history of knee problems so I guess that's what I have. So times some clicks in my upper leg/hip too when I do certain movements.0

Any of you got fallen arches (on feet) or flat feet? Apparently that might be a factor in the clicky knee stakes.0

My knees always have since my teens, I am 36 now. The only thing I can recommend is strengthening the surrounding muscles if you have pain from it. I also take swiss joint soultions for any joint pain associated with it. I recently had it starting in one of my shoulders and it was painful but strengthening the rear delts is helping with that. Make sure that if you are training any muscle group you train all the muscles surrounding that joint so in the case of knees the quads and hamstrings to keep things in balance.0

My knees click and grind, only because of my weight, i ruined them. Doc says I now have arthritis in my knees and im only 34yrs old:( sad eh! he tells me when im older i may need surgery, but at this point here in Nova Scotia unless extreem cases with someone my age and weight they will not fix them, so now im in pain every day. Boo0

Mine have since I was very young before I was even in my teens. Every time I squat down they make a crunching sound so loud and kind of embarrasing as people think my legs are breaking or something. My mom's have always done the same thing. There is not enough fluid in the joints. I have been regularly taking joint supplements, glucosamine chondroitin, leg strengthening exercises and drinking enough water daily and it has actually eased up a bit.0
