Do you know how pickles are made?? They're pickled. That means they are put in a brine (salt water) to preseve them. That's why they are so salty.

We have our hockey players drink pickle juice when they are severely dehydrated because it gives them a TON of salt that they need.

I think it is part of the pickling process. Generally, to pickle, you pour a boiling brine into the jar with whatever you are pickling. The definition of a brine is water heavily saturated with salt. So there you go.

mmmmm I love  pickles too but have stayed away bc of the sodium. I used to eat Saurkraut a lot too but don't now for the same reason. :grumble:

If you are not worried about the sodium pickles are a great low-cal snack. For me its the clausen Baby Dills. When I am craving salty and crunchy instead chips I eat a few pickles. Just remember to drink lots of water to help flush the sodium.

I saw a show on Food Network that they actually market Pickle Pops somewhere. I couldn't believe it but they showed the process of making, packaging and people paying for them. Crazy!
