How much fat are you eating??

So Im not low carbing per say -Im following more the primal blue print (http://www.marksdailyapple.com/#axzz1oU8OOdXS) way of eating than any low carb diet I aim for 50-80 carbs a day but often fall well under 50 never going over 80!! I limit my calories to 1300 however... I am now seeing posts that state if you take in to much fat youll gain weight!! Huh? I thought the whole point was to get your body running on the fat? How much fat should I be aiming for??

Thanks

  • Well, I went and set my settings to 15% carbs (I've still been too much over, though), 55% fat (I've been under), and 29% protein. I was looking at the page in PB about Kelly Korg and figured that's about right for my particular height, weight, and activity level...but I am only just beginning with PB so I'm still really trying to transition over to this and I could also use some advice! :)

It doesn't matter how many of your cals come from fat, if you're in a caloric deficit, you'll still lose weight.

Get whatever percentage of carbs the primal blueprint tells you to get (sorry don't know what that number is).
Get 0.7 - 1g per lb of lean body mass in protein.
Fill up the rest with a balanced mix of monounsaturated, polyunsaturated and saturated fat. Avoid trans fats like the plague.
Get your 5-8 servings of fruit and veg even if it pushes your carbs up a it more than you'd want. The protective qualities of plants are just about the only factor that every nutritionist in the world agrees on. Better to eat too many carbs and lots of plants than it is to eat low carbs and not get enough plants.

    Hope that helps.
  • .5g per lb of body weight in fat per day seems to be the compromise I have read
1g per lb of protein per day
and as you said 50-100ish grams of carbs
