Hi,

I've been reading a lot of success stories on here, I absolutely love it. I'm finding myself more on here than Twitter/Facebook. Did I ever not think that would happen, lol.

But after my reading, I'm finding people saying it's not healthy to lose more than 2lbs per week.
I've been eating 1200 regular calories per day, and not eating my exercise calories. I complete atleast 30 mintues of cardio per day but I try for 60 minutes, só it's between the two.
I also had SlimQuick pills which is a caffiene free calorie burner pill that I was taking.

To me, it seems like I'm doing this the proper way, but after reading a ton on here about anything above 2lbs per week isn't healthy, I'm getting a little worried.
Am I not losing at a healthy rate?

Any advice or opinions would be appreciated :)

  • When we start a new healthy lifestyle we tend to lose a lot of weight at first although, I am concerned about the use of pills. Please stop. I know someone who took them and ended up in kidney failure and had to have a transplant. It is not the norm but she didn't think it would happen to her either. As far as calories go I would bump up your calories since you are working out that much. You just need to be healthy. Eat healthy and exercise regularly and you'll be fine.

Yeah, I only took them for the first 4 days & stopped because I was getting migraines & wasn't sure if it was from that or not. I don't plan on continuing them, I just figured it was important information to include.
What would bumping up my calories do? Would that slow down the loss? I very much enjoy how fast it's going, lol but I'm just worried after reading more than 2lbs isn't healthy. I might have misunderstood what they meant by "not healthy" but thanks for the input :)

I lost 8 pounds during my first week too. Once your body gets acclimated to the healthy change, the weekly loss will come down and be more consistent. Besides the pills, it seems like you're doing great.

There's a really strong chance most of the weight you lost was water weight. I hope you kick the pills and good luck!

    No worries, I haven't taken the SlimQuick in 2 days & I won't be taking anymore. I felt lightheaded &had migraines &now they're gone!

I was more worried about it being a "fake loss" or something &it showing back up quickly.
Or "not healthy" as in stop what you're doing, lol.

But thanks for the luck :) I'm hoping for a success.
  • If you are logging your exercise and calories you should be fine. Upping your calories won't slow your progress if you are eating well. I eat about 1700 per day which works great for me. I eat a clean high raw diet full of veggies and greens, fish, goat's milk yogurt, avocados, the occasional piece of fruit and some dark chocolate every night. I lost 3 pounds last week and 15 pounds total in about 3 weeks.

The reason people caution against over 2 lb a week is that if you're dropping more than 2% of your body weight each week you could put yourself into the dreaded starvation mode, some people don't believe this is a valid issue but I've had it happen, it's where your body significantly slows down your metabolism and you will find yourself exaughsted, the weight may stop and can even reverse and you will lose muscle tissue. For example last week during the beginning of the week there were several days where I netted under a thousand calories, it wasn't intentional my work schedule was crazy and I didn't have time to eat like normal and I wound up being 3,000 calories under what mfp says I need to lose 1.5lbs a week I only lost .7 lbs! For the last 4 days I've been much closer to my goal, and was over yesterday, and I'm down over 2lbs.

It will take some finagling to get a calorie/workout combo that works for long term and you'll have to make adjustments, I would recommend based on my experience that at least on the days you workout to add in an extra couple hundred calories, try drinking a protein shake after your workout and it should help you keep the scale moving down :)
