i wanna do it but the knees dont.....

I am limited in what I can do to exercise as I need two new knees, no running, high impact, no swimming due to grinding... have the wii fit n that is good, also walking is good but wondered if anyone had any other suggestions that I could try to keep some variety in my routine, can do some gym work but hate it.... please help

no room to store one unfortunately..... gonna borrow my friends now and again but still need more.... am lazy by nature n need something to give me the after aerobics feel but without the pain......0

can you walk? do that step master thing? or high 15 incline treadmill walks.0

when my knees were bothering me I used a gazelle.0

What about shadow boxing? You can sit and do that. Maybe even sit on an aerobic ball for more core workout. I know it gets your heart pumping.0

can walk on the flat, uphill much slower, cant do steep inclines as too much grind and pressure...... used to be very active but struggle now...0

I have terrible trouble with my knees and now in my left ankle. I recently bought an armchair pedal exerciser, really good, got it on EBAY for £23.00, I do have a bike but can't get it out of the garage at the moment. I did half an hour on sunday and I had lovely trim ankles and it didn't crunch my knees.

I like to swim a lot when the weather gets nicer. I just swim laps back and forth and I'm worn out when I get done. I don't know if that's something you would be interested in.0

like the shadow boxing and boxing on wii fit is good as i only have to use my legs if i want to and still get the upper body and use plenty of energy.... will try the ball but may fall off lol...0

When my knees "flare up" from running, I take a break and stick with bicycling or using an elliptical. Not even swimming? You can just use your arms... I once swam laps using only my arms when I was training for a triathlon. Cardio indeed!0

If you can walk do it. You don't have to break any records, You don't need a gym. get out on the streets or into the countryside, a bit of fresh air helps as well0

xtrainer, stationary bike and rower at the gym - I busted the meniscus in my knee the day before xmas and these three has been my saviour.....0

It's too bad you don't have room for a recumbant exercise bike. They were great when my knees were weaker.
Also, I second the swimming comment: with one of those belts to help hold me up, I could get a great cardio workout using just my arms to swim.0 -

the ball is hard to keep stabilized but if you start with your feet wider apart that is easier and then as you get stronger you can scoot them in to get a more intense workout.

sink down just a little bit and do punches. Keep your abs tight and put some force behind them. This is great cardio!0

Hi, my name is Vernessie, I can relate to what you are going through, I have arthritis in both of my knees. I have found just walking alone is good enough. I walk daily from 15 to 60 minutes at a lesiure/slow pace. It all depends on how my knees feel, I may walk a short distance or I may walk a long distance. I found out, any movement is good for knee pain.0

Hi, you can add me. I need a new knee defo on one side, and probably on the other side too. I am 50 years old and started using the gym "properly" from 3rd Jan. I too HATED exercise. Everything was a struggle, walking was a nightmare, sport was out of the question and all I could do was cycle to work a couple of miles now and again.
On 11th January I got a Personal Trainer and I haven't looked back! He devised a programme which works around my knees. He knows exactly what to do with me and tonight just 10 weeks after I started with him I just did 1000 reps of various exercises for my whole body in an hour i.e. 10 exercises of 100 reps of each, including freestanding squats holding weights in each hand and being able to get down on the floor for abdominal leg extensions. There is no way I could have imagined this 10 weeks ago! I can do squats, leg press, and loads of other leg exercises. I LOVE the rower as I have no pain with that - I row 4000 metres every other day (I go to the gym six days a week). The elliptical is a bit challenging, I started with 2 minutes and am now up to 8, the bike I do about the same.
Your comment about hating exercises rang true with me, but trust me if you get a personal trainer they will work round your weakness but more importantly build on your strengths - and you do have strengths, you just have to find them. I am amazed at what I CAN do and no longer focus on what I CAN'T do. Life is good. My PT is changing my life with me. It is a worthwhile expense - I look at it as a few months of debt for a lifetime of health.0
