Detox ideas????

Hi everyone,
I'd really like to try a detox as my eating habits haven't been great the last few weeks and Im feeling really sluggish and tired. I want something thats going to help get me motivated again and stop me feeling like a lazy, sleepy, bloated pig lol. Does anyone have any tried and tested detoxes that worked great or even any that I should avoid?

You say you're clueless about detoxing, so I suggest a trip to the mayo clinic website. Read what they have to say. Or I'll summarize for you:
Detoxing doesn't do anything except make you miserable and empty your wallet.
Just focus on a healthy diet and you should be good to go.0 -
If you're feeling like you need a good detox because you've been eating crap... then I've got the perfect solution. First of all, get your diet back to good and eat better. Drink a lot of water. Second, (i used this the other day because I've had a particularly bad week of eating food wise, though still under my calorie goal) take fiber. I use the pills and take the recommended dose. Then, drink a cup of coffee.
That's it. I gaurentee you'll be cleansed in no time at all. Ok, that's a lie. It'll be about an hour after you do it and don't make any plans for the next 20 minutes.0 -

Don't disagree... but I will say honestly I felt much better after I did it. I was serious. I felt bloated and backed up due to having some poor food choices and this made me feel great for whatever reason. I felt like I was floating on air. If she's feeling the same, I suggest at least giving it a shot.0

My boyfriend and I did a detox a few months back. It was my first and it was BRUTAL but I am glad I did it. It was more of a practice in self control than to really "cleanse" my body, but I did want to get away from processed crap.
This is what we did, I don't know if it is the most effective (or healthy even) but it worked for us:
Eat ONLY RAW fruits and vegetables for 5 days. Nothing steamed, nothing cooked in ANY way, nothing dried (spices), nothing out of a package or processed in any way etc. And water. That is it.
Like I said I don't have much experience with detoxes but I really was glad I did this. It taught me that I AM stronger than my urges, and to appreciate food. It's funny/sad, when doing it I learned what hunger REALLY was the FIRST TIME in my life. Hunger is when you don't really want to eat something because it is in any way appealling, but because you NEED to eat.
It was brutal. But I'm glad I did it and now I listen to my body better. Soon after I found MFP and I think eating healthy and well balanced every day is a WAY better method to go, but if you want to try a detox just for the hell of it, go for it.

Detoxing are for those on drugs and alcohol. You don't need to do it, just make sure you're getting in your correct macro/micronutrients, staying within calorie limits and exercising.

I did a sort of detox last week, veggies, fruit, some dairy, chicken, low sugar. I ate a LOT of veggies and drank a lot of water. I only lost a pound but I felt great. Also I have been taking B120

You could add an acidophilus supplement to your clean, healthy diet, or some other pro-biotics. And water really helps, especially after the first few days of drinking 8 big glasses a day.0

I bought a juicer a couple weeks ago and LOVE it!!! Juice fruits (probably only one fruit juice a day-because of the sugars) and I juice vegetables. Watch "Fat, sick, and nearly dead" It is on netflix. I think Juicing is a very healhy way to detox seeing you are detoxing on all natural plants and vegetables. Just my opinion0

Oh yeah; and you wouldnt have to do an all out detox. I make a fruit juice in the morning for breakfast, snack throughout the day, have a decent luch, and have a veggie juice. I feel good because I am pumping tons of veggies and fruits into my body0

If I eat really poorly for more than a day, I get to feeling like this too, the bloated, sluggish feeling. It's crazy, I never would have noticed it before I started working out and listening to my body, The best thing for me is to spend a day really pushing water and eating lots of raw veggies. Usually puts me right back on track.

My advice, lots of water. Eat better, drink double the water for a day or two. Your body will do the rest. You may want to add a pinch of a good quality sea salt (I had Celtic Sea Salt recommended to me) to a glass or three to help keep your electrolytes balanced.0

If you've been eating poorly and feel poorly because of it, the obvious answer is to stop eating the things that make you feel that way. Your body detoxes itself, unless you've never pooed, in which case I don't blame you for feeling backed up.0

The word detox (along with cleanse) drives me insane. They are bandied about by the sellers of 21st century snake oil to a gullible and unsuspecting public. When visiting website extolling the virtues of their proprietary newly discovered miraculous product turn on the critical thinking part of your brain.
Remember your mother telling you that if it sounds to good to be true it is? She was right.
Look for objectivity, credibility and peer reviewed clinical trials before parting with your hard earned cash.0 -

Or it could just be me implying that from trusted sources I have been informed that the detoxification process improves digestion, whether I have toxins in my body I wish to be free of, or not. Sometimes, its possible for things to have more than one purpose.0 -

I hear if you want to do a "detox" that you should avoid caffeine and alcohol mainly.
I'd say just eat lots of whole foods, fruits, veggies, etc and drink lots of water. And if you want to avoid caffeine and alcohol then do so.
If you google natural detox or something then I'm sure you'll find websites that will tell you what should be avoided but overall I would just drink lots of water and eat whole foods.0 -
I have done a detox in the past. I know this seems to be a "hot topic" for some, but I think one that is balanced is not going to harm you. Some of the crazy ones (like drinking water with cayenne pepper and lemon and nothing else for a week to a month is nuts), I wouldn't recommend - that's just anorexia. I do believe that you can do one on your own with fresh fruits and veggies, lean proteins and whole grains and LOTS of water. However, I did go to a local natural health store and bought a detox system there. I picked one of the higher end ones (it was $75 ...this was awhile ago, but I think it was called DeToxitec). It consistes of some multivitamins, and drinking a shake twice a day. This was a seven day detox. It also contained a list of foods that you could and could not eat, and no limitations to how much. The shakes were gross, but when I discovered I could make a fruit smoothie instead of just mixing in water, they weren't so bad, and I can honestly say I was NEVER hungry even once, and I lost 7 pounds (this being the first week on my diet at that point was also an indicator of the higher weight loss, I wouldn't have expected that later in my diet, as you often lose the most the first week or two). I can also honestly say that I felt amazing after. I chose to do a detox because I had horrible eating habits due to stress (I tend to binge eat on chocolate), and just wanted a "fresh start" to making a difference in my lifestyle. After committing to that, I felt I couldn't turn back and I began that journey feeling pretty good.0

Return to a healthy diet and drink plenty of fluids. That is all you need to do. If you normally don't have a digestive problem, then things will return to normal shortly. DO NOT DETOX. Do not do some fad detox home remedy like just eating vegetables. Again. Return to your healthy diet and drink fluids. The bloating will go down as your system returns to baseline. This has nothing to do with pH of the system or any other miracle cure. You will be fine soon.
