Barcodes are not the same all the way around the world.0

I had a similar incident with a small bottle of milk. I scanned it and it turned up some brand of butter instead. Thank goodness I was the passenger in the car and could manually search the milk on the app.0

I've only noticed a few, but I like that you can edit it if it's wrong!0

Yes every once in a great while something will scan incorrectly. By and large it is correct and by far the best feature of MFP. I absolutley love that I can scan the barcodes and be done very quickly. It takes a couple of seconds to verify that it is correct, but still saves you a ton of time from having to enter everything in manually.0

wow, I don't need rude laughing third degree comments about my scanning a can while moving in a store parking lot...the point was check your item after you scan and before you add... thanks everyone0
-
Huh! I've never had that happen and I use the app quite often... Thanks for the warning though.0

Is there some trick to getting the scanner to work? I have use my phone to scan lots of other things before but I can't seem to get MFP to scan anything. It just keeps showing a red bar and everyone in a while it will partially turn green then go right back to red. I have tried holding the phone closer then further, etc but nothing seem to make it actually scan.0

*make sure you are in a well lit area
*when the red line shows up, hold the item and phone VERY STILL-sometimes, I have to put the item on the counter and then use both hands to hold the phone
*the camera will focus (make sure the ENTIRE bar code can be seen on the phone screen, a bit farther away is better then closer) and the red line will turn partially green
*the info will then show up0 -
Had something scan wrong, then rescanned it and it came up as the right thing. So you might just want to try again.0

I scanned a 25 calorie jello that came up as a 580 calorie taco meal.0

Bar code scans, just like user entered foods in the database, are just that--user entered. This is why you will see discrepancies when you scan an item. There is the option to change it. I had to do that last weekend when I scanned my milk on my andriod and it came up as englsh muffins. I had to scroll down to see the option to match the scan with another entry already in the database.0

How do I enter a barcode?0 -
I've not got an I phone - got an HTC but i can scan on it and ive noticed some things that come up wrong too0

Most things come out right and it is faster. However, just as with the food entered into the MFP database, you have to double check everything to be sure. I find things that are right, but missing sodium or serving size wrong etc.. Once you verify and put in your food list, then you don't have to worry about it again. Most people eat the same things pretty regularly. Overall, I like the scanner for being fast.0

I've come across a lot of errors scanning. I just scanned a pack of Co-op Gnocchi and it came up as something from Tesco (can't remember what). Calories are often WAY out too, compared with the packet. So, scan away, but check it every time!0

Also, you kind of have to question... if it's coming up as different stuff when you scan it, are the stores scanning it correctly, then? Did you pay for their pickles, or for the buns? Did you pay for the V8, or the Minute Maid drink?
Curious...
Good Question, check those receipts.
I think this would be an error on the side of whomever is entering this information for MFP, not the retailer or manufacturer.
Someone has had to enter all this information at some point, and I suspect it is a data entry error. I noticed once that a gallon of milk that I scanned had 10 less calories than what the packaging said, so I just went in (later on the computer) and corrected it.
I do wish that we could see 'the community' from the iphone/ipad. I use both of mine alot, and don't carry a computer around in my pocket very often.0
