Toes Numb While Working Out

Options
My toes and the ball of my feet get numb while I'm working out. This is something that just started. I've been exercising since Jan. 2012 doing Leslie Sansone Walk-at-Home---so nothing too jarring. Could it be the type of gym shoes I'm wearing? I have sketchers for walking.

Has anyone had this issue and what did you do?

I have issues with sciatica so sometimes that happens to me..do you have any leg or back pain? You may want to see a doctor to make sure there isn't any nerve damage going on...

I'd try a new shoe. I believe that shoes are the most important expense that one should have before they decide to work out!

This happens to me when I use the elliptical or the stationary bike... I haven't noticed any other time and don't have any pain. It's just weird and kind of distracting.

Mine does that on one foot only. I have a pinched nerve and it usually only does it on the eliptical. I just work through it. If it really bugs me I hop off, shake it off and get back on. I dont know if shoes would cause it or not

This used to happen to me until I changed two things:

    1. Got a better pair of shoes (shoes that have better support for my type of foot and running style... see a store that specializes in fitting shoes)
    2. Made sure I didn't tie my shoes too tightly.

I have the exact same issue! Not only do my toes go numb sometimes, but I also get pins and needles in them too. It only really happens when I'm on the cross-trainer though. I guess I just have poor blood circulation, or that I'm not using the equipment correctly or something...

Sometimes shoes being too small or laced too tightly can cause this.

I experienced numb toes after being on a recumbant bike for 15 minutes...I generally have to switch positions a lot when sitting to keep my limbs from going numb, my doctor said that weightloss and cardio can help with circulation, but other than that there isn't much I can do :(

This happens to me on the elliptical machine. I found that my shoes were too tight. It still happens if I'm on their more than 30 minutes I think from the type of movement. It's quite possible it's your shoes. Loosen your laces and see if that helps. If not, maybe a sport shoe insert. These are things that have worked for me. If it continues, I would see a doctor or specialist. Good Luck!

Your feet swell during your workout. As some people have said, try tying your shoes less tightly.

This happens to me, I have a very expensive pair of running shoes that I bought at the special store and had fitted to me, I do not tiede them tight at all. I have gotten used to it. Dr isn't worried about it because they dont turn colors which means circulation is fine.

i have sciatica and i only walk as running can be downright painful! go and get yourself some good quality walking shoes (if that's what you're going to be doing). you might also want to see a podiatrist just to get an assessment to see if there's anything else you should know about

My right leg sometimes gives out when walking up stairs. I also did try loosing my shoe strings. I'm going to see about investing in a good pair of gym shoes and if it continues, go to the doctor. Thanks everyone for your response.

This happens to me when I use the elliptical. I think it's the shoes.. I bought a different pair.. and it doesn't really do it anymore.

I have the same problem especially on the ellitical and stationary bicycle. I also find when I was quite a bit that also happens. My doctor said it could be because my shoes are too tight, but I wear that exact same pair of runners at work all day and it doesn't happen then? It is quite frustrating becasue I feel like I can work out so much more, but have to stop for a few minutes becasue its quite painful.

Also, if you are/were a smoker, and you are older than 35, PLEASE go get checked out by a doctor. Your femoral arteries could be partially blocked. My brother had to have a double femoral bypass at 37 - an extreme case because nicotine is particularly toxic to our genetics, but it happens.
