Switching from gummy vitamins to normal?

So I was taking a target brand gummy vitamin up until yesterday when I ran out. I have some Kirkland Signature (Costco) vitamins that have quite a few more vitamins in them including 100% DV of Iron which I've realized I'm really lacking in.
My worry is that I will stop taking these (as I did before) because they are large and taste disgusting in the small period of time it takes me to choke them down.
Anyone else struggled with this and have any suggestions?

Hi!
I actually have the exact same problem. The vitamins I take are the worst! Even the smell of them makes me sick! lol. But I actually take a bite of food, pop in the vitamin, then drink lots of water to get it down! Depending on what I'm eating, I've found the food masks the flavor enough to get them down! Sometimes I'll cheat and eat it with something extra yummy, like a small piece of candy or a bite of a cookie because I figure I'm being good by taking my vitamins, so this little cheat in my diet won't hurt! hehe0 -
I love gummy vitamins! Most vitamins my body can't tolerate after a few months.
A nutritionist told me it's because there's something in the filler to the vitamins that my body reacts to and apparently that build up takes 2-3 months to materialize. My body tells me this by gagging when it’s time to swallow the pill (when in the beginning my body had no reaction… hope that makes sense). After she refunded me for the 2 month supply of vitamins I’d bought from her (and had to stop taking after a month) she recommended I just plan on brand hopping for the rest of my life or until I find something that works.
The only two vitamins I’ve found, other than my son’s gummy vites, I can take long term have been: 1. StarrWalker liquid vitamins (a brand I haven’t found since I moved from Oklahoma) and Melaleuca’s Vitality (a brand I’ve actually been taking for about 2 years, but to prevent build up I only take it at the the prescribed dose, and back off when I start to shudder opening the bottle).
So if you’re just taking one bottle of these and going back to what works for you, then you’ll probably feel fine. Just be forewarned: I didn’t realize gummy vites have calories, lol. I just discovered that. Not much but enough that I started logging them.0 -
I wrote all that to say it might be your body telling you (or whoever else is reading this) something when you feel like stopping those big pills, it might not just be the fact of the pill ittself.0

Cut them in half to make them easier to swallow.0

Buy some more gummy vitamins.
That's what I do when I run out of a product I like.0 -
Perhaps you may be chewing them, as you would with gummy vitamins. I suggest swallowing them whole. Alternatively, you could crush them up in your apple sauce or hide them in bacon. I'd say you could rail them, but a bump of vitamins may not have the same effect as crushing scripts.0

My doc told me gummy vitamins were easier for our bodies to use than regular ones so that's what I do. Maybe just practice taking pills, practice is how I improved my gag reflex.0

Well, I'm stumped.0

I have a friend who has no gag reflex. She practiced with various forms of birth control.0 -

Yeah, it's become a bit of a party trick and I can't figure out why my friends are always making me prove that I have no gag reflex.0 -

I cannot imagine why.0 -
I have to take gummy vitamins too because the regular ones make me sick. As in actually throwing up sick :frown: Not sure why though. So I just stock up on the gummies, especially the sour ones, love them.0

Lol. No I'm not chewing them. I can swallow them whole. I just hate doing it.
And for those who said keep taking gummy vitamins...there is a HUGE difference in the amount of vitamins in the gummies vs. the solids. I'd rather get the better nutrition.0 -
oh wow, reading the replies I guess the jokes on me... I thought this was a serious post. :blushing:0

I tend to think that you just need to put on your big boy pants and swallow them.
Have them with a meal so you have something tasty to eat afterwards so you aren't stuck with a nasty taste in your mouth.0 -

I think the jokes on me...since I intended it to be serious.0 -

Well in that case...tell me... do you always have a hard time swallowing the bigger pills, or is it just after a month or two, seems like your body gets tired/disgusted with them?
If it's from day one, I'd recommend finding a good liquid vitamin (or pill cutter as was suggested-didn't work well for me but does for others).
If it's more like what I described in my post, I'd look into buying an organic brand or just trying "higher quality" brands until you find one that works.0 -
I would watch the Iron. How do you know you are lacking? You would need a blood test for this. Too much Iron can be dangerous.0

My doctor told me that if I wanted to find out if my vitamin of choice dissolves soon enough to be digested and just isnt past thru to take some luke warm water with a little salt and put your vitamin in it. if it isnt dissolved in 20 min it more than likely wont enough to be absorbed.0
