My body is really weird when it comes to food. I eat, and five minutes later I'm really sleepy and don't have any energy. It happens with anything I eat.
My old diet: fresh fruit and vegetables only. way over the recommended 'five a day' guideline. I'd have a sugar free redbull every morning and that'd sort me out. Aside from the redbull, I drank black teas and black coffees, about five a day.
I am trying to introduce new foods into my diet now: soups, yoghurts, small servings of dried fruit such as raisins or apricots. A cereal bar to go with my tea mid afternoon, meat free mince, quorn chicken pieces, fresh fruit and vegetables but no more than five a day.
I'm still working on incorporating these foods into my diet, just one step at a time.
I drink the recommended water intake but I still drink teas and coffees, my cut off point is at two mugs. I also drink no added sugar squash, 200mls of skimmed milk a day and just one glass of diet pepsi a day.
I'm in recovery from anorexia and I understand this may be part of the reason why my body doesn't have the energy for usual daily tasks but it's really getting me down. I have suffered with anorexia from the age of six, I am twenty now. At the age of sixteen I started purging(vomiting)my food and drinks, water too, so it is a big deal keeping anything down for me.
Note: I used to sleep roughly 4-5 hours a night and I currently sleep 7-9 hours a night.

That happens to me a lot. I find that I can actually do my homework while I'm hungry but if I eat prior to doing my homework, I will fall asleep on it. I find that it's not only the kind of food that I eat that causes it but I also realized that it has to do with the amount of food I ate. If I eat till my stomach is full and then add an entire drink on top of that, I get sluggish. But if I eat till I'm like 95% full and have a drink to fill up the 5% left, I feel significantly different. I also feel a slight difference depending on how slow or fast I ate. If I ate super fast then I feel horribly drowsy even if I didn't fill my stomach. See what works for you because I could just be a weirdo. I think it may be part of your body just saying "Woah, there's a bunch of stuff in here that went in too fast. Sit down while I digest."0
