Do you like it in the morning?

I think you bring up a very good point. I have wondered that myself. I actually wonder how the cave men/women did it. I mean, do we seriously think they got up and "ate" right away - within the hour? I doubt it.
I sometimes wonder if eating first thing in the morning doesn't promote "more eating" the rest of the day. :grumble:
I guess I need to do some online research about the topic.
Cheers,

Yes, I listen to my body pretty well now and I wake up hungry so I eat. Usually within 30 minutes give or take, sometimes about 45. I used to skip breakfast all the time thinking I wasn't hungry, go all the way until lunch then I'd be starving, then I'd eat a lot. Other times I didn't even eat breakfast or lunch but had huge dinners, usually fast foods. LOTS of it!0

it was funnier when i saw this last week! WHEN I DID IT!!0

I have found that my body is backward from most people. If I eat in the mornings, I am hungrier all day than if I don't eat. I had always heard to eat before you get hungry because hunger is the first sign of starvation. Well, we all see where that thinking got me...181 lbs at only 5'3". Now I only eat when I'm hungry and have lost a little over 7 pounds. It's working for me.0

Actually, "The whole metabolism thing is myth" is WRONG!!!!!!!! Metabolism is definately not a myth. I have taken biochemistry and know how everything is metabolized in your diet. It is imperitive for your health that you eat on a regualr basis, whether you are hungry or not. If anything eat a piece of toast or something small in the morning because when you sleep you are not taking anything in,but you are still creating heat and burning calories. if it doesn't get any intake when it is awake the body will start breaking down your muscles before fat because muscle is easier to break down and provides more energy. This reaso you are probably not hungry in the morning is that you have tricked your brain to think that way, but your body still works the same no matter what your brain says. (Trust me, I have the same problem in the mornings!!). I will usually make one or two pieces of toast and sprinkle a mixture of cinnamon and sugar on it for flavor.

This! It's always better when someone can present research and facts rather than opinion. In my opinion it's always better also, to realize that as much as we are all similar, we can be different. There are people who eat less later in the day if they don't eat breakfast and there are people who will eat more. To say," this is what works for me so it must work for you" is just fallacious. I'm too lazy to look it up right now but there is info that is research based on either Lyle McDonald's or Alan Aragon's site that says the conclusions reached regarding timing of nutrition is that timing of the nutrition is insignificant. Total nutrition and composition is critical. If I'm feeling more ambitious later I'll look it up and post the link.
To those that tend to eat more later in the day I'd ask if your breakfast is mostly protein based or carb based or mixed. A carb based breakfast may increase insulin in some and make them more hungry later. Protein with some complex carbs less so.0 -

I do both. During the week I get up at 4:30 and am out of the house at 5:30 so all I have is a cup of coffee. I just cannot stomach more than coffee at that hour! At 8 am another cup of coffee and if hungry a low cal yogurt or slimfast bar or fruit. I drive a school bus and have to grab quick meals on short breaks. I find eating less calories every 2 hours or so all day then a bigger dinner works for me.0

I like it all the time0

on the 4 days i work i eat early about 630 when i am off i may sleep or lay around until 10, 11, 12 even so i do like to eat when i first get up. i find i can hold out longer during the day if i do.0

I don't think you should ever force feed yourself. If you aren't hungry, you just aren't hungry. I love breakfast though so I eat it everyday. Sometimes I wake up extremely hungry but, my children, on the other hand, are never hungry in the morning which drives me nuts because I want them to eat! Everyone is different, do what is right for you, just don't let yourself get too hungry or by lunch time you'll be wanting to eat everything, and I think that is the real danger of not eating a good breakfast.0

When I'm at work, I usually skip breakfast and don't eat til about 2pm. When I'm at home and have the time to make breakfast, I do that. Breakfast food is the best kind of food0

I am a type 2 diabetic so skipping meals is not a wise option for me... I consume 3200 calories a day so I tend to eat a big breakfast (800-900 calories) and my remaining calories are spread over the rest of the day.. My meal plan is pretty structured so I don't tend to save calories for later cause I already know what I am having...0

I work second shift so I usually dont eat breakfast and go straight to lunch. I don't even get out of bed most days until 11 am.0

No, not really. It's all I can do to choke down an egg or a glass of omega-3 chocolate milk. I'm just not interested. I do make myself do it now, though. I find it helps keep me satisfied longer during the day.0

Hello!
Well I am not hungry until around 9.30am but force myself to eat on because I work at a school, and my tummy will growl really LOUDLY!! and break time is not until around 10.20am !! My days off I sometimes skip breakfast and just enjoy my lunch and evening meal!!0 -
i get up at 5am for work each morning and am starving before i even open my eyes! LOVE breakfast - yum! but that is me eating when im hungry...but i do try and not go longer that 3 hours during the day without having at least soemthing small to keep my energy up0

I love eating breakfast I eat hardboiled eggs and I don't feel hungry again until lunchtime but I don't think you NEED to eat breakfast if you are not hungry but at least drink some water0

I am not sure what you are trying to advocate with these links. Both are talking about 48hrs - 84hrs starvation. Neither even mentions breakfast. Both are irrelevant to this discussion.
Eating breakfast has a direct correlation to a healthy BMI and cognitive function.

I follow the same rule I tell my kids..I eat when I am hungry. The end..if I am hungry in the morning eat if not I wait for lunch. By the way my kids are 13 and 18 so I am not starving little kids..lol..I tell them eat if you are hungry if not then not..the end..0

I have solved my breakfast problem...I blend about 8 oz of coffee, about 4 oz of milk, ice, cinnamon and a scoop of whey isolate for "breakfast." That way I get some energy and some protein to tide me over to lunch without taking alot of time or energy, and I don't feel full or bloated. Some days I throw in a hardboiled egg for good measure...
Oh, and everything that I have read claims that eating breakfast not only cuts down on calorie consumption later, but also helps your body metabolize food at a faster rate earlier in the day. (Although I'm not really sure if my "breakfast" counts--I started it because I was worried I don't get enough protein--which is a whole different thread, I'm sure.)0 -
in the mornig is great0

I have found that I just don't want food when I first wake up. so, I usually have a cup of coffee and then some light breakfast like toast with PB about 2 hours later. I usually have a little bit of hunger by then. It's working for me so far!0

Food is my biggest motivator for getting out of bed in the morning. I wouldn't be able to otherwise. ahaha0

Considering I wake up STARVING nearly every morning, I'm always amazed by people who don't need/want to eat until lunchtime. I would be dead on the floor with the most god-awful headache by 9:00 if I didn't eat a little something in the morning. For me it's shredded wheat bites with skim milk and a glass of juice with my vitamin. I do love breakfast food for dinner, though - pancakes, turkey bacon, eggs. Mmmm.0
