i was just looking online at belts to carry my phone & a water bottle or two.
i'm doing a couch to 10k running program, and definitely will need to take some water along. question is how much is enough?
options are: 2x600ml bottles, or 1x650ml bottle and a 150ml gel bottle (whatever that is for...)

any opinions?
or would you recommend something along the lines of a camelback?

thanks

I've heard not so great things about belts as they tend to "ride" funny depending on how full each bottle is at any given time. What running routes do you take? I have several friends who run routes by parks and refill at the park with a smaller bottle. If you are doing races, they have water stops, so the water isn't an issue. Gel is for energy gels that are sold-basically a boost of carbs and electrolytes used for quick energy that is sweated out during a run. Wafers, Gu and Sports beans are also available for this purpose. I'd personally do a camelback type container(and I need to research this since I'm starting training for a 1/2.)
ETA-I see the link you have isn't to a running place, but to an outdoor sporting store. Here is a link to runningwarehouse and all of the different belts out there. I personally ADORE my 10 oz FuelBelt Sprint. It fits SO easily in the palm of your hand(though no room for a phone), but here are other options for you.

I have a camelback and it holds 64 oz. It also has a couple of small pockets (enough to hold a cell & asthma meds, keys, etc..) I bought it at Costco for $20 last year. I think they have them this year too.

On my long runs I wear a Nathan two bottle hydration belt. Each bottle is 10oz and it has a small pack area that has a Velcro pouch inside, a clip for keys and room enough for a phone, gels, whatever, and then another small Velcro pouch on the outer flap of the pouch.

A gel bottle is usually a differently colored bottle that is made to fill with a gel that gets mixed with water for supplementing while running. But you don't need to start supplementing until you're out there for over an hour of solid running, so unless you plan on eventually doing more than 10-K, you probably don't need that.

If you get a belt, make sure you find the best place for it to fit your body well before your first run. Some people prefer them on their hips, others their waists. Some people like the water bottles in front, others in back. (personally I'm a waist/back person) But however you wear it, you want it to fit/sit right on your body. You don't want it bouncing, slipping, or twisting at all.

I'd recommend getting to a store to try some on since they fit differently. For me, the FuelBand belts never sat right and bounced a lot as I jogged in the store. But the Nathan fit perfectly. But my hubby prefers the FuelBand over the Nathan. So it's a personal preference that shopping online won't give you the chance to discover.

    Thanks for the replies
Shopping online was mostly to figure out what I'll be looking at and how much of a budget I need to plan... If I go to any store without a plan, I'll probably walk out with something entirely different from what I went there to get...

I'll keep the camelback in mind, but don't really like running with a backpack. I'll see what they have when I finally do go to the store...
