Hey y'all - just saw this and thought I'd join in. I just started walking this month. This morning, I just got a new personal distance record: Walking 7.28 Mi, 2:06 hr, 978 Cal. - Making 66 miles & 9000 Cal since starting! :D

I use Runkeeper on my Droid X phone - it tells me distance, charts my route, gives me calorie burn. And I listen to audio books, or recorded lectures, or FM radio. I could do Pandora, or my own music, but usually like to listen to talking to take my mind off the exercise.

Some tips I've learned picking up distance walking this month ... baby powder. Double socks. Good shoes. Snug underwear (to reduce chafing). ;)

    Here's my runkeeper page: http://runkeeper.com/user/pseudocyber/profile

    Good luck!

  • I would love to! Just got back into MFP. I use Leslie Sansone. 1 question though, how do we count calories? I was trying to log an exercise dvd and I don't know how to record calories burned, should I just log it under cardio? Let me know when we start and the miles we are working for! Thanks,Faith

I would certainly be up for this, as I love walking! I've lost most of my weight just by walking.

I'll do it, I just joined a 100 miles a month challenge, However, I'm not logging any miles for that challenge until next month because I've been sick for the last 2.5 weeks so, I only have 10 miles in for this month.

The 'Experts' say we should all walk 10,000 steps per day, this based on average stride length equates to 5 miles or 9Km.

So if you base your fitness on this, we should all try for at least 35 miles per week..

    Week 3-15 miles
Joined a walking group on Wednesdays and Deliver a weekly paper on a walking route that really helped me increase my miles.
70,570 Total steps for the week ending today, which includes work and daily activity which would come out to just over 28 miles if I count that using 2500 steps for a mile.
