From another MFPer:
"Don't give up what you want the most for what you want in the moment"0 -
I am not too bad with the comfort eating, but I find it hard to get off the couch and get to the gym. Then I remember something I saw on Pintrest "Sweat is just the fat crying". That always makes me feel at little badass and excited to sweat.0

If I want to eat them I do, then I hop on the crosstrainer for a while longer.0

I've got a couple of things that I try:
1) If I catch myself before I've eaten way too many servings of fave foods - I get up, get a water bottle, and take a walk around the block. I clears my head, and I usually come up with other things I could be doing besides eating.
2) I'll call my sister or a friend and ask her to tell me something happy about her day
3) If I don't catch myself and I'm feeling like crap cuz I just ate away all of the hard work I put into exercise that day (or worse yet my overeating is on top of NOT exercising), I'll toss whatever's left in the bag and set my alarm a half an hour earlier so that I have time to get in a little extra walk in the morning.
Best option I've heard - put a before picture of yourself next to your favorite snack spot as a deterrent. And, you can always look to the people on MFP for support0 -
LOVE that! I think I may have to steal it (I don't plan on giving it back)0

Also, I have a list of things I need to do around the house. Anytime I think I am hungry when I know it's just being board, I look at the list and do something. It's hard to think about chips when you are cleaning out a closet.0

I really don't have words of encouragement but I know this has worked for me so far. I have been battling food addiction pretty much most of my adult life. If I wanted something, I would eat it. That is what has lead to me being overweight. Ever since February 9, 2012 I came to the conclusion I was addicted to food/overeating. Ever since then I have had an easier time dealing with cravings. They still happen to me and I would love to tear into a lot of my old foods but that is what is working for me. It doesn't make it easier for me I think I just recognize what is happening. Whenever I get the impulse for something I know it is my addiction talking and not my body for nourishment.0

Go grab some of your "fat" clothes that don't fit anymore. Put them on to show you your progress! That will remind you that you DO NOT want to gain that weight back, and should stop you from eating something you shouldn't.0

I think preventative strategies are helpful – like don’t buy foods you tend to binge on. Also, sometimes I put tempting foods in the freezer (like butter and cheese). Then, I still have them in the house and can use them in moderation in cooking -- but it’s harder to randomly slather butter on a slice of toast for an unplanned snack.
Also, if I’m tempted, I go look at myself in the mirror and think about how much better I look now. It sounds self-absorbed, but it’s true.0 -
I tell myself the following. "If I eat this I will suffer from shame and guilt. If I don't eat this I will suffer from hunger and stress. The first choice will make me fat and the second choice will make me thin. If I am going to suffer anyways, which path should I take?"
This has kept me going long enough to last over a year, and I have lost 50lb so far. I am trying to last 10 more, and I am still using this method.0 -
Being fit feels better than ANYTHING tastes

I stood in the candy aisle during the height of PMS and didn't buy the dark chocolate. I'll be damned if I'm going to waste that feat by pigging out on some measly raisins!0

"I hate the treadmill". If a treadmill followed me around when I want to totally indulge in high calorie food, I'd probably be more strict about it.

If I am depressed and feel the urge to eat, I tackle the depression rather than the eating. I normally get sad or frustrated about something related to my school work or academics. So, I go watch a few episodes of whatever show I like at the time. I laugh a little bit. I do things to take my mind off the stress/depression. And when I'm in a much better place depression-wise, I don't want to eat. I'm satisfied.
I've realized that I turn to food in these cases because I feel that that is something I can control. It's a, "Oh, if I'm not able to control my marks, then at least I can make myself happy this way." I try to move myself away from that mindset, find and do something else that controls my mind and happiness. And then I don't need to eat.
As for just regular old, "I want a bag of chips." type of craving, it's usually because I'm in a place that has those foods or sells those foods. So I just power-walk away.0 -

Good for you! I wish I'd realized this about myself sooner.0 -
"Put it in your food diary first, and if you still want it, you can have it."
Practical. Effective. But not terribly Louise Hay.
Pretty much this. Usually seeing the calories in the red will stop me, but I'm still working on it.0 -
"Nothing changes if nothing changes."
"If you're tired of starting over, stop giving up."
"Every time you say, "F*** it, I don't care," there's a 100% chance that you'll care later."
"The difference between who you are and who you want to be is what you do."0 -

I saw this somewhere on MFP and have made a bunch of little signs that I've taped around my kitchen including inside the fridge and the food cupboards:
"What I eat in private I wear in public"
I use it to remind myself that my 'secret' overeating doesn't stay secret for long.
PS....a huge thank you to whoever the OP of that slogan was!0 -
I go brush my teeth...nothing tastes good after brushing your teeth.0
