Yes, a bottle. I just want to know - how bad is this in terms of weight loss (I dont need to hear about my liver or health)? I am totally diligent with my eating and exercising, but my downfall is wine. I only have about 7 lbs to lose - is the wine keeping from my goal? Thanks!

about 24 calories / oz. Depending on the size of the bottle, at least 600 calories.

You can do a google search and it will break it down by type... Red has slightly more than white.

Cab is about 670. Shiraz a little more, like 690. Cheap red is less, ~600. Don't know about white but MFP and Calorie King cover most of your bases on particular brands. YMMV

Eh... To answer your question around 600 calories is correct, depending on the wine of course. CHEERS!

I'm not one to preach, but it's over indulgence not to mention it doesn't matter how much you diet or exercise, alcohol lowers your metabolic setpoint. Just depends on what you want!

I was under the impression alcohol hinders fat usage.
  • 365 days * 600 calories = 219,000 divided by 3500 (calories in a pound) = about 62.5 pounds a year

    800cals burned * 5 days a week * 52 weeks = 208,000cals / 3500 = 59.43lbs... 62.5 - 59.4 = 3.1lbs per year gained. 3.1 * 3500cals = 10850cals left to burn / (5days * 52 weeks) = 41 extra calories to burn per workout = <5 extra minutes per cardio workout....I can handle that. Cheers :drinker:

I personally am a Wine-O!! but for myself, I have to quit my beloved wine while dieting. Too much sugar...If I don't drink, I can lose 1 lb a day...drink and I can GAIN a lb a day! So I'm on the wagon for 30 days. But my wine will be waiting for me then, under the bed, where I put it ....if you only have 7 lbs to go...you can go without for a few days. The wine will still be there! Really...

Depends on the size of the bottle. A bottle a day is not good for your health... sorry to say. A glass maybe but a whole bottle?? Somethings wrong there.

Sorry to bring up old post but,
(not sure if true or not)
But I swear the way it works is that alcohol calories (not including sugar) do not add to fat content but when you go to burn those calories, they take preference over fat or sugar calories.
I was researching this and this post was second so I'd update it.
But yeah, alcohol (according to experts) does not contain calories that will create fat, but WILL stop other calories from being burned so if you drink a glass of wine at up to maybe 275 calories (off Yahoo Answers) you'd have to remove those 275 calories before exercise will become effective. I'm not sure if waiting for the alcohol content to leave means the calories leave but I'd suggest making sure! (more exercise is better than none!)

Again sorry for bringing up old post but there are only a mix of 2007-2011 post which make up the info I have posted in one comment so I hope this hopes someone not spend half an hour searching for the answer I have been looking for.

IDC about spelling corrections, I'm not interested, so don't reply if that is your comment.

I thought a calorie was a calorie whether it came from alcohol or not. Personally, i drink my share. Sometimes its a glass, sometimes its a bottle. Sometimes most days of the week, sometimes not. I can usually decide between a snack or a drink when i chill at the end of the day, both have calories so i just budget them in. I'm sure i'm tighter with my calories during that day because of this.

My question is i know red has slightly more calories than white (but also has more health benefits) but does sweet have more than semi-sweet and more than semi-dry?? If so I can push myself a lil dryer

Dang...how do you do that? I drank a whole bottle of moscato once but it made me so drunk and so sick I could never do that again let alone every day.

I think if it is within your daily calories then you should be fine. I wouldn't do it all the time. I drunk almost a bottle of Moscato about a month ago and I did not gain any weight. I was drunk...... :)

That's a lot of empty calories. You can work it into your calorie count but you might be missing out on nutrition.

I think if you are drinking an entire bottle of wine every single day, you may be an alcoholic. Forget about calories, this is about alcoholism and you may need help.

alcohol is a depressant in that it slows your bodily systems down, including your metabolism, while your body processes it.

A bottle per day is just bad overall. Take it from someone (me) who has been there.

There seem to be a lot of very old threads being resurrected at the moment. This is two years old so will have lost the weight or suffered from alcohol poisoning by now
