Anyone else have a hard time taking a rest day?

I am SO glad I'm not the only one! Thanks for all the replies everyone. Hubby lectures me about taking rest days. It's just HARD. I don't feel guilty or worry that my 40 lbs will come back overnight, I just crave that calorie burn and stress relief. Plus being a stay at home/homeschooling Mom, it's really the ONLY alone time I get during the day to be honest. Maybe I'll try to take a rest day once a week and walk with the kiddo to the library or something. That way I'll still take it easy but won't feel so antsy.0

I love my rest day because I know I need it to push my body the rest of the week. In fact, I take 2 rest days a week.Still losing weight but feel I am minimizing my chances of injury. In the past I pushed continuously and have always injured myself, twice needing surgery. Listen to your body.0

I used to have a hard time taking a rest day because I tend to be so all or nothing...like a rest day would turn into a rest week...but now I take Sundays off (which doesn't feel like much of a rest day with church stuff going on) and I enjoy it because I know that the rest means I'll kick some serious butt on the treadmill come Monday.0

Yep, I have extreme guilt and can't seem to relax. However, resting will bring down your cortizol levels and give your muscles time to repair...not to mention burn calories!0

I do.. I feel guilty, like I should be at the gym. My rest day consists of doing housework, laundry, errands, babysitting, etc, etc....lol...Working out at the gym gets me away from that for a while, and then I am back at it..lol...0

You have to rest and recover, because that is when your muscles repair and rebuild, that is when you actually get stronger. So rest days are crucial!! That being said, I have a hard time on rest days as well lol0

My body tells me when I need a rest day and I feel super lazy too when I don't work out. On rest days, I take my dogs for a walk or I walk around my neighborhood or do some light stretching in the living room. Sometimes even cleaning house makes for a good rest day activity :-)0

I know what you mean. On my rest days a trainer friend told me to indulge but still its tough. I eat pretty well and ill just go for a slow steady 1 mile walk in the afternoon.0

I didn't mind in the beginning, but Now I just wanna keep going and get to my goals ASAP. So I take them when life gets in the way, ie: sunday we'll be at a birthday party during regular workout time, I haven't had a day off for ten, so that'll be it I'll also just do a lesser activity ie: walk, yardwork, etc. glad to know I'm not crazy or alone!0

Yes i do im always worrying that i could be burning more calories .. but i know its important for my body ( muscles ) to recover... Sometimes i will go for a walk it makes me feel better lol0

I'm just becoming addicted to activity. I never used to be. I used to be addicted to sitting on my butt. I appreciate the change and look forward to using my rest day for getting a lot done around the house.0 -
Yes! If I am at home watching TV, I'd sit there just watching it for maybe a minute....then bust out the yoga mat and before I know it I'm sweating my *kitten* off doing jumping jacks and burpees.
Maybe its an addiction, but I'll take this over food addiction ANY day!0 -
I do... I feel like I have all of this adrenaline in my body and I need to do something. But I do take the day off. Sometimes when it gets bad I'll just walk the dogs a little extra or something.0

I do!!!! Every now and then I look forward to a rest day but I always feel like something is missing! I do miss my workouts normally though0

What is this "rest day" you speak of?
In all seriousness you don't need to take a rest day if you are mixing things up. If you want to take one , great. My last rest day was in October of last year.0 -
I squat, bench, and deadlift 3 days a week; heavy weight, multiple sets. I NEED my rest days.0

I love my rest day....the problem happens the next day when i work out again...i feel like ive never worked out before!!:sick:0

THIS! I have four kids, and I take my Nook to the gym and read while I'm doing my cardio -- I need to burn off all my frantic energy after the kids have run me ragged!!!! :-D0 -
I am the same. Just go for a walk..walks are perfectly fine on rest days.0

I do yoga on rest days
If your yoga is "rest," it's not the same kind of yoga I'm doing lol.0 -
I don't take rest days. I can't imagine not working out and then I wouldn't be able to eat as much.0

I had to take a rest day in Tuesday because I was so sick and yet I felt so guilty. I do try an take a rest day at least once a week to recover but I still feel the same guilt.0

...there is a bit of a fear that once I rest for a day I will have a hard time starting up the next day.

additionally...'tomorrow' might be too wet or cold or I might be invited out and HAVE to miss a walk.
I walk every morning except Sundays, and every evening except Wednesdays. So far this schedule has served me well.0 -
Active rest. walk the dog around the neighborhood, clean stay on your toes0

I've learned the hard way on more than a few occasions that certain injuries are almost guaranteed and very hard to heal if I don't take *some* time off, or at least vary my activities appropriately.
When rock climbing, the musculature often develops about 10 times faster than then connective tissues, making climbers very prone to chronic tendonitis. If I don't take at least one and preferably two days off between climbing days, I can find myself in serious pain. And the only way to heal those kinds of injuries is to not climb at all!
Non-musculoskeletal exercise, however, is fine for me to pursue every day.0
