dont know when to stop..

wondering if anyone has this problem.. after recovering from being in starvation mode! i seem to have lost touch with my body's hunger signals..
for example at dinner.. although i always stay within my alloted calories i overeat.. i dont stop until i REALLY REALLY feel full.. i want to stop before hand and i know that the answer is to eat slower BUT its so hard when u have a great dinner sitting right in front of u!

  • This is what my hubby did and this is what I'm doing now. Instead of using a regular size plate, use a saucer. Fill it, but don't pile it (hope that makes sense). When you are done with that, wait about 5-10 minutes and see if you are still hungry. It's starting to work for me:wink:

    I've been struggling with this for months. Used all the tactics recommended by WW but still do not feel full, even though I've had a very good meal.

    Sometimes I give in to the need to FEEL full, and sometimes I don't. Lately, I haven't and it's really made a difference, I think.

    I get the impression that the body needs to learn what it feels like, and like any addiction, we go through withdrawals when we don't give in to the "need" that it feels, but it WILL reset within time.

    I had a similar issue in that I went from starvation (literally, two years ago -lost 20 pounds in only a few weeks and WASN'T trying to diet, just couldn't keep down food and didn't feel like eating, even when I could) to eating anything I wanted - even things I was allergic to. Emotional issue, as you can tell.

    Now it's a matter of proportion but I'm still struggling, hoping the body will eventually get the hint and re-set.
  • I have the same problem. Some things that have helped me are:
    Drink lots of water with your meal. It makes you feel fuller.
    I put the serving on our plates and put the leftovers away before I eat. I usually don't want to go to the trouble of getting them out and heating them up again.
    If my body still thinks it is hungry, I have some herbal tea. Something hot for me is very satisfying.

  • I have that problem too, and I tried something that I caught on the few Paul McKenna tv episodes I got to watch. They chose several people walking down the street and offered to feed them a full meal. Then the next day they blind folded the people and fed them the same meal as the the day before, and they stopped before cleaning their plate, where as the day before they all cleaned their plates.

    I tried just closing my eyes when I took a mouthful and set my fork/spoon down (the first time I did this I put the sandwhich down) while chewing and really concentrated on the flavor and textures of the food and chewed each bite more than I normally would have, and I felt full after eating half of what I would normally eat if I had eaten with my eyes open.

    It sounds silly, but it surprised me that it really worked, and the great part of it was I REALLY did enjoy what I ate, it was one of my favorites (a chilli dog). I normally would have eaten 2 of them *before I started with eating healthier foods:tongue: * and this time I was full with just the 1 dog, no fries, and I was satisfied for a lot longer than I thought I would be! :happy:
