Does anyone else find this disheartening?

Truman Capote once said, "All comparisons are odious."
I believe it!0 -
Oh my goodness! I find your picture disheartening! Haha! The shoe is on the other foot. I am at 171 and in NO way does my body even come close to looking like yours! I think you look fantastic and don't think that you should compare you body to others. Like everyone says people carry their weight differently. Keep doing what you're doing don't let others get to you.0

lol, I'm 5'8 and 131 pounds, but to look like that girl at 134 pounds I'd probably have to be 120 (technically underweight). It sucks but it's not worth getting upset over. Just work hard and you'll get to where you want to be soon enough Good luck!0

Don't compare yourself to anyone else! When I started losing weight (again) last year, I weighed 150 pounds and looked awful. But, other people who are 150 pounds look awesome. Just be the best YOU that you can be, and don't compare yourself to others. Work towards your own goals, and if you want to keep going afterwards, then do it.
I started out a few years back at 191 pounds and wearing sizes 18 and 20. My goal then was to be around 150 pounds and size 8. When I got there, I learned that I must have a teeny tiny frame because size 8 clothes make me look like a heifer. Yeah, other people look fantastic in that size. But I look like mush. So I changed my goal and kept going. I am now 12 pounds lighter and wearing sizes 4 and 6. I still have no abs and thighs that get heat rashes from rubbing together. It just goes to show how we are all different.
My profile picture was taken when I was 126 pounds a couple of years ago. I am trying to get back there because the 12 extra pounds I have on top of that just look bad on me. It really depends on your own body and preferences. Don't use anyone else's goals to shape you, decide what you want and go for it!0 -
Sometimes I look at how far I've come and where I want to be, and I feel great — and then I see something like this
This girl is the same height as me, and her "start" weight is the weight I want to be at when I maintain. Now logically, I know that everyone holds weight differently and my body may be more fit than that when I reach the same weight because I've been incorporating so much exercise, but it's still frustrating on some level. For an idea of how my body holds weight, this is me right now at 169 (14 pounds above her start weight)
Am I letting things get to me too much, or does anyone else have similar experiences?
I was up to 161 lbs and I could never look as good as that! Don't be so damn hard on yourself.0 -
I also think you look great already, and I love your smile. I do know how you feel, I get discouraged when I see people with a starting weight lower than my goal, but I also sometimes question peoples honesty. Not necessarily this girls, but people say 'this is me at my heaviest, 200lbs', and I have to think that either the camera isn't being kind, or they may have been a bit heavier than either they want to admit, or that they realised.
In the end though, there is little point in comparing yourself to others, you have to focus on yourself, and stop at whatever point you feel comfortable. I'm sure you'll get there soon enough.0 -
Your 169 looks way better than My 169, lol!0

I can kind of understand where you are coming from. I started out very big, and though I am down 74 pounds, I have a VERY long way to go, with my ultimate goal just making it into onederland. I see people on MFP who are on the high side of the 100's and they talk about how huge they have gotten. I start to think, "Man, what does that make me?" It does get me disheatened for a moment, but they are not me and I am not them. We are all different. So I have learned not to compare myself to other people, in how I look or weigh, in how I lose weight, or anything else.
You look great by the way! Good luck in YOUR journey!0 -
Everyone's different and everyone has different goals. Don't let it bother you.
I have very dark hair. Getting upset because someone else's goal weight is lower or higher than mine would be like getting mad every time a brunette went blonde.0 -
I can understand where you are coming from but I have to say that you look just like she did when she stared so logically you will look just as good (not the same obviously) when you reach your goal!!
Good luck and don't let any of this stuff get you down! Everyones experience is different!!0 -
I get what your saying. people my size generally weigh closer to 250. 250 is my target weight, I generally have always weighed 50 to 100lbs more than I look so I know that weight can be deceiving. on the other end one of my best friends used to look like he weighed much more than he actually does. It came in handy at carnivals where people guess your weight.
another example was in basic training my battle buddy weighed 195, I weighed 250 but his stomach 10+ inches bigger0 -
I think your body is better than her start. It does boil down to how you carry weight and what type of weight you're carrying. I think you look great. And I think you should not let other people discourage you.0

1. You're adorable.
2. You don't realize it, but you're the lucky one here. I have a friend that's close to me in height, but has a completely different frame. She looks thin and gorgeous around 140, while the weight that looks comparable on me is about 120 pounds. I would love to be able to look equally great without having to work down to such a low number.0 -
Personally, I think your body is smoking! You have natural curves, and ummm I'll trade you abs ANY day!0
-
You can't compare yourself to others like that. You have to be centered on your weight loss, you don't know what someone else has done as far as exercise or eatting habits. You have to strive to be the best YOU that you can be. :flowerforyou:0

Oh my god! I would kill to look like you!0 -
You've got way more muscle mass than her, and appear to naturally carry more weight on your bust and hips. You actually look fantastic right now; my goal is about 20 kg lighter than your current weight, (I am quite a bit shorter than you, though) but your current look is pretty well exactly what I'm after!0

Thank you for this! Awesome site.0 -
You look great!
We are our own worst critic....remember that.0 -
you look great!! you should love your body the way it is..not worry about what other girls look like..because sadly you will never have their exact body..everyone is diff.0

I am 5'5 and 150. You are smaller than I am. I drag around 30 pounds of saddlebags.0

don't compare yourself to someone else... you need to only compare you from where you start to where you are to where you want to be. each persons body will change differently and will not look the same even it the weight loss is identical or measurements are the same. You are who you are and you should focus on you.0

Your current body is the GOAL BODY that I'm going after.......0 -
Sometimes I think that I want to be thinner than I am now... and I see so many people out there thinner than I. Then, I think, at what cost? I know I'LL never be able to maintain that weight again - not with my desk job - and I love food! I just have to learn to love the right foods and be happy with me. And I remember that I am SO much happier with myself now than I was 35 lbs ago!
So, let those other images go. Sweetie, if I had looked like YOU at 169 lbs... heck I probably would have started maintenance then and there! You look fabulous.0 -
I'm disheartened that I'm 153ish 5'8 and have a bigger belly than you...
Lol but seriously we all hold weight differently just own it!!0 -
You look wonderful how you are! You have very nice curves. You are only four lbs below me, but I don't look anywhere near as slim as you do.0
-
First of all you really do look great! And I do get like that. I have pics of me before I had a baby when I was 115pounds. Sometimes they discouarge me and other times they inspire me. I find it easier if I do not focus on those pics or pics of other girls. All of our bodies are different0

Oh man I almost forgot about this post, and then I saw notifications and stuff when I got back on here today. Thanks guys — it's nice to know I'm not the only one. I guess everything is a little frustrating because my weight hasn't really budged for the past 2 or 3 weeks, but yeah. Thanks guys0
