I love you, scrambled eggs with mushrooms, but why you has so much cholestrol :( I don't like egg whites alone and I don't want some chemical alternative. You keep me so full and satisfy me so much, but I think we have to part ways now...

Try cutting down the number of egg and then use egg whites to substitute for a full egg.
  • Hi there. Wanted to reply on this because I'm an egg addict. I converted though, and wanted to give you some tips that may help. I have egg white omelettes or scrambled egg whites just about every morning. I usually have the 2 (or 3 eggs whites, if I am super hungry), mixed with sauteed onions, green peppers and spinach. To add some pizazz, I add a serving of parmesan cheese (20 calories for 2 tsp), a pinch of salt and some pepper. And I have to say I REALLY enjoy them. My whole breakfast is right around 100 calories, give or take depending on the additions.

I know it's not egg yolks, but hey....it IS filling and tastes good too. throw in some blueberries or strawberries at the end for a kick.

    Good luck!

i dropped the yolks, doubled the eggs and added some fat free cheddar cheese
I was also a yolk fan, but found this a suitable substitute

Don't worry too much about dietary cholesterol.

dietary cholesterol doesn't have a whole lot to do with blood cholesterol. eggs are almost a perfect food

Unless you have a cholesterol problem, just don't eat them every day and you'll be ok.

Thanks everyone. I like the using 1 yolk with 3 egg whites idea. I will try it when I have my next scramble or omelet.

I can't eat the whites alone either. I use a whole egg combined with egg whites as well. :)

Doc says 4 yolks a week since I was diagnosed with borderline high cholesterol. Dietary cholesterol does not have as much of an impact on your numbers as hereditary. As such, it's not worth going 100% no yolk when they contain all the nutrients, healthy fats, and some of the protein.

So, I usually do 1-2 whole eggs and then egg whites. Bulks it up and you still get the flavor of the whole egg.

LONG AND DETAILED: Concerned about the cholesterol in egg yolks? Worried about protecting your heart health? Egg yolks have long been maligned because of their cholesterol content, but cholesterol itself does not cause heart disease. In fact, while LDL, a major carrier of cholesterol in the blood, does have a role in heart disease, it is when poor metablism, deficient diets, and toxins destroy the LDL particle that heart disease develops. You can read more about this in my extensive article High Cholesterol and Heart Disease — Myth or Truth? Or, listen to my interview with Jimmy Moore on the Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show, Chris Masterjohn on the Health Benefits of Cholesterol." No reading required!

And, in fact, the University of Connecticut has extensively studied the effects of eggs on cholesterol levels. These high-quality controlled studies have shown that when people consume three to four eggs per day, with the yolk, virtually everyone experiences either no change or beneficial changes in their cholesterol levels. Dr. Maria-Luz Fernandez has reviewed those studies here.

IN SHORT: Please eat the yolks, they contain more nutrients and eggs are VERY good for you. That dietary cholesterol is related to high cholesterol is pretty much an already debunked myth.

    People, EAT EGGS!

I agree. Eggs are so controversial. "they" say eggs are horrible then "they" turn around a couple years later and say we should eat them. My family owned chickens when I was growing up. We ate a good amount of eggs and all my blood tests are fine. Also my dad ate eggs everyday for a very long time and he is very healthy at 63.

I wouldn't worry about the cholesterol in them because dietary cholesterol doesn't actually raise your cholesterol. They're not directly related.

Im an egg eater too. I eat 2 eggs mixed with turkey sausage, sweet onion and green peppers at least twice a week for breakfast and sometimes have a hard boiled egg for a snack. They are good. Eat them! :)
  • I eat eggs almost everyday and my cholesterol blood work has always come back normal. I love eggs
