I worked at VS for a couple of years and yes, we do an over the shirt measurement, and no, it is not a perfect science .. hence, there is a bra wardrobing center and a bra specialist inside the fitting room that can re-check your fit.

I can tell you firsthand the VS method of measuring doesn't even give me the correct size I wear. It is not a science, and it is true that the majority of bras will fit most women differently.

Take the time to get measured to get a starting point, and then TRY THEM ON! It is the only way to know - and if you are not sure, ask for an employee's opinion, they've seen it all.

They fitted me and told me I should be wearing a DDD and I wear a DD. But my grandma bought me a DDD before and it was way too huge. So Idk if I trust them. lol

I've never been fitted, but I took the time to do the math a few times to make sure I was right, and once I bought a bra that fit it's incredible. I was wearing a 38D because it was the largest I could get that were comfortable, and depending on the fit I might not fall out too bad. I actually wear a 40H.

I go to a special bra store and am so glad I had someone tell me about this place. I found it on accident looks for a nursing bra. This store is very good about fitting. They are trained. The owner is always in there when I am there. They do the measurements while you stand there in your bra only and then they help you put on the bras. That said I usually buy just one to see how it feels before I spend the money on more. Still, well worth it to have someone do your bras that know what they are doing. I am also a smaller band size and larger cup size then I would have ever guessed. BUT they fit. I need to go get fitted again now that I have lost weight and have so much room in my bras. I have never had much luck measuring at home.

Here's the website that I use to get my size and it's pretty accurate for me.

I am so glad you posted this site! I now know why nothing will stay where it's suppose to... All my bras are WAY to big! I didn't think I had lost much in my chest but I guess I was wrong.

I think most ladies wear bras that are too small. When I was fitted, I was shocked to find out that I was a 32D... this was back in high school after I'd lost some weight. Prior to that, I'd only wear sports bras, but I always assumed I was a C, too.

Yup, when I got measured at a lingerie shop, I found out I was a 36G. Which sounds like pornstar size to me. But my boobs look big but not ginormous. :P (Now I am much worse: 36HH at the same weight I was 1st measured. eek!)

The EXACT same thing happened to me. I've always bought a 34-36 C. I got fitted for the first time at Nordstrom about 6 months ago and it turns out I'm a 32DDD!!!! I was way off on my assumed size. Glad I got fitted.
I was mind-blown yesterday. So I had some coupons so I went to VS and tried some on. They just didn't fit right, I noticed for a bit now my bras were fitting weird but I didn't think much of it, I have several bras from VS and Aerie. I gave them back to the girl at the dressing room and she asked if I'd been fitted, I said no so she fitted me. I thought I was having an issue with band size but she said it was cup size and that I should be in the 36DD or maybe a 36D and I was wearing 36C's.

Has anyone else had this happen? I tried on the 36DD and D and she was right, they fit much better. I think I am going to go back and get another since I have to exchange one anyway since I found defect in it. But still, that's insane. I didn't think I was a DD, you always thing massive when you think of that size :/

I got fitted in Key West when I was there last year (random, I know) and they told me I was a 32DD and I'd been wearing a 36B. They told me to NEVER go to VS because when they fit you they only fit you for VS sizes and that their sizes are so much different than normal bra store's bras. So if I were you I'd go to a local bra shop and get fitted.

I desperately need to get fitted. I've never been. Wearing a DD right now, but probably should be bigger. I already have a hard enough time finding bras as is though! Don't want to go any bigger and have even more trouble! Lol.

I will second the recommendation of an independent lingerie shop. They do the absolute best sizing at those. Or take your measurements and try the calculator linked earlier. And be willing to try on different sizes. I almost always take a 32D, 34C, and 34D back with me in each style I like to see which one gives me the best fit. I'm sized as a 32D and that's what I get the most often, but sometimes one of the other sizes fits better in a particular style.

Also, remember that they cannot ever force you to buy a bra. If you don't like the way you look or feel in it, don't buy it.

I have been wearing a 34D for the past year in a Bali basic smooth bra with underwire and now that I lost 7lbs, I was thinking about getting a 32D. I am going to have to hunt down the 32 band size, I could not find it at the store I got the 34Ds. Any suggestions on where to shop besides online for getting the smaller band sizes?

I just bought 3 bras from VS. The woman who helped to fit me was very helpful. Every style was a different fit. The best thing to do is try them on! I was a hard fit because my right girl is a D but my left girl is a C! I am right between sizes. I will be losing more weight, but I will go back to VS in the future because the sales lady was so helpful.

I have also shopped at Schwartz's. Another great place to get sized. The bra size selection there surpasses any store I have been in, but the style selection is limited.

I was well aware that I was wearing the wrong bra size so I went to get fitted at Macy's I was wearing a 34 C and I was sized at a 32 D. Now my boobs don't fall out of my bra when I bend over.

I got fitted like 4 years ago (before most of the weight gain) and was a 32E. I had been wearing a 32 DD. I've been able to wear all of my bras throughout my 25lb weight gain..which I find kind of weird...but anyways...My boyfriend got me a gift certificate to the Swimwear Hut last year, but I wanted to wait until I lost a little weight to go bra shopping. I'm just about at pre-boyfriend weight now, so I went a couple of weeks ago..expecting to still be an E..maybe a 34 instead of a 32...but no. Not a single E would fit me. I didn't find a bra that fit nicely until I tried on a 34F. Curse these things. Certainly not made for the sports I've subjected them to my whole life.
